"Hey dude, if you ever discover something in space name it after my mom."
"Sure dude."

How strong was the one that was 180, 000, 000 km away? That is around 111, 000, 000 miles away. So in space terms. Just a little bit further away than the sun. So if it's stronger than a supernova, how is it that we didn't notice it here on earth?

You do realize that 180 million kilometers is about the distance from earth to the sun, we would be dead if an explosion like that happened so close

Because when scientists saw it, they yelled holy "cow".

For those who are wondering, it indeed isnt 180 million kilometres away, I checked and it's 180 million light years away

This type of supernova is called a "failed supernova" or a "cow event." In 2018, astronomers observed an extremely bright and brief explosion in space that was dubbed "The Cow" (short for AT2018cow).
Initially, it was thought that this event was a typical supernova, which is a massive explosion that occurs at the end of a star's life. However, further observations and analyses suggested that the Cow was not a typical supernova but rather a rare and unusual type of explosion.
Some scientists have suggested that the Cow may have been the result of a failed supernova, in which a star collapses but does not produce a typical supernova explosion. Instead, the star's outer layers are ejected in a massive explosion that is similar to a supernova, but without the expected signature of a compact object left behind, such as a neutron star or black hole.
It's important to note that the exact nature and cause of the Cow event is still a subject of debate and research in the scientific community, and there is still much that is not fully understood about this unusual explosion in space. Its distance from Earth was estimated to be around 200 million light-years, which is approximately 1.9 x 10^21 kilometers away from us.
It's important to note that distances in space are often measured in light-years, which is the distance that light travels in one year (approximately 9.46 trillion kilometers or 5.88 trillion miles). Because the Cow event is so far away, it is difficult to accurately determine its distance and exact location in space, and ongoing observations and research are still being conducted to learn more about this unusual cosmic event.

It happens when two neutron stars collide into eachother

omg i wonder how much effort would flat-earthers use to connect 'the cow' in their 'flat earth' dream
