Side note: Columbus believed the Earth was pear-shaped, and because scientists had already done the calculations on the size of the Earth, they knew it was quicker to sail East instead of West; so he went West and discovered America based on a dumb hunch that the Earth was the wrong size 🤣

Walter Raleigh never came to America. Despite his desire to go, Liz wanted Raleigh around the court. In 1584, Arthur Barlowe arrived at Cape Hatteras and surveyed the region. His good report led Raleigh and his cousin Sir Richard Grenville, to send the group now known as The Lost Colony.
