What is rabies ? Rabies is a preventable viral disease most often transmitted through the bite of a rabid animal. The rabies virus infects the central nervous system of mammals, ultimately causing disease in the brain and death. A deadly virus spread to people from the saliva of infected animals.
Rabies is usually transmitted through an animal bite, for example, from stray dogs.
Symptoms include fever, headache, excess salivation, muscle spasms, paralysis and mental confusion, fear of water that is hydrophobia, fear of air that is aerophobia etc.
Seek immediate medical attention after a bite or suspected bite. There is no specific treatment for rabies. Once symptoms appear, it's nearly always fatal. A vaccine can prevent infection.
