I’ve been there. John and Ken didn’t seem to get how hard this is for the caller. What really struck me is when the caller said that his wife wants to stay near “her family.” When two people get married and have kids that in itself is a family unit. Her husband should be more her family than anyone else but it doesn’t sound like his wife feels that way. Tough situation!

Dr. John doesn't listen. First of all, they didn't even ask why his wife said no. He's not projecting; he's tried to talk to her already about it. Second of all, that's his business not a job. What will he do? Sell the business? This couple definitely needs marriage counseling but I wish some of the Ramsey personalities would listen more instead of just rushing people off the phone.

These guys are offering very neutral advice, good professional advice. HOWEVER, I have no sympathy for the wife. I’ve been in a situation where my partner put their commute over my considerably longer commute and there was zero consideration of my commute and the burden on it. That relationship has since ended. Good luck to this caller, but sometimes human selfishness is too strong to overcome.

Yeah, he said that she agreed to move when he started. That’s why he’s been commuting so much. The problem is that she doesn’t honor her agreements and is self-centered. She doesn’t empathize with the fact that he’s suffering for everyone’s benefit except his. You’re not going to have a meaningful negotiation with someone like this.

Something tells me there’s more to this story. The average woman wouldn’t be cool with her husband commuting this much without the marriage effectively over. My money is that she has a side piece and is getting husbands money and fun times elsewhere.

Expecting men to always bend to a woman’s desires is part of the reason our society is a giant mess. When this man moved, his family should’ve moved. He’s doing his part and providing.
