the directions say that the stud finder won't work properly for a couple weeks if you try it on a freshly painted wall. Have you found this to be the case? I took down a large piece of art, repaired the holes, and repainted. I'm having a hard time getting consistent readings. I'm going to hang a new piece of art that is heavier and need to find a stud. The other issue is that this is not just a long straight wall without obstructions. It's a cut-out that is only 22 7/8 inches wide. Will the tool adjust if I calibrate it when it is directly over a stud?

How does the zircon compare to the Bosch GMS120? And for the average home owner is the extra $$$ worth it for the 900 or is the HD70 ok. Dewalt has a nice center finding one too. Thoughts
