When I worked at a restaurant chef always had me cut a lemon and use it on my cutting board at beginning of night always said it was a good way to kill anything on there. All these years later, I understand exactly why.. thanks

I am from T&T🇹🇹🇹🇹 growing up back home my grandmother would show us how to wash meats, and fish in lime or lemon water using a lot of fresh squeezed fruits from the trees before seasoning and cooking she would say this is used to kill any bacteria which would make us sick after eating the food.
My grandmother was a small child from Union Island🇻🇨🇻🇨 before immigrating to Trinidad she didn't study Microbiology back in her day however she knew what she was speaking about.🤔

Today I still use the method and it works...many people from the West Indies do the same....my spouce is from Antigua and Barbuda🇦🇬🇦🇬 and his family do the same thing with washing meats and fish before cooking.

This is why I put the squeezed lemon skins along with the sponges in the same tray so that whenever I wash the dishes/stuff, apart from the antibacterial properties it also gives a slight lemony smell on the dishwashing liquid.

When I was working as a waiter, I forgot to wear deodorant once and during my shift I noticed I started to smell a bit. So I took a slice of lemon and rubbed it under my arms, and hey presto my BO had disappeared.

When people cook eggs, they denature or change the shape of the proteins within, due to heat. Acids (like the low pH of this lemon juice) can also do the same thing. Assuming that pond water is a touch basic (say pH of 8), and the lemon juice is at 2 pH, that means it is a million times more acidic than the pond water, and is "cooking" the proteins of these poor microorganisms.

Extreme changes in pH can lead to death far far faster than say a disruption in their metabolism. Great video my friend 👍🏿

Also, great for treating termites. No joke. Save your finances. No fumigation needed. We used lemon juice mixed with vinegar(fyi: could stain some surfaces) at a 1:2 ratio. Sprayed the hard wood floors and all cracks and corners every other day for about a week & a half to two weeks. Also sprayed crawl spaces once a week for several weeks. Watched the little bugs crawl across the juice and die in a matter of seconds. I was shocked.
