Pineapple juce is great for making a sourdough bread starter, just a couple table spoons of it with whole wheat flour and the low pH will prevent it from spoiling and smelling bad while also activating the dormant yeast and lactobacillus.

Bromelain "increases permeability of cell membranes" because it's got sword-like crystals that pierce the cell walls. I saw this on a microscopy channel. Come to think of it, might have been this one. I love the terminology because I imagine if someone was stabbed and the news reported it as the perp "increased the permeability of the victim's skin."
