Man, it's so relieving to hear this. I always felt obligated to take deficit breaks because I thought my metabolism would suffer if I didn't.

I recently lost 50 pounds in 5 months and these past 3 days I celebrated for a good job done. Didn’t count calories, didn’t put mind on things like I normally do, I knew I was eating above my calories but fuck it I am so happy near tears on how well I did. Now imma go back to it and continue my weight loss 🥰 first break in 5 months btw. It was heavily needed

Honestly, I would've lost my sanity if I didn't allow myself a break at least every now and then. This is coming from someone who personally lost 40 pounds. I would only eat healthy during the work week. But hey, come Friday/Saturday I would allow myself my desired cheat meal during the weekend as a reward for staying discipline throughout the work week and I still lost all that weight. I can't imagine my mental state if I didn't allow myself ANY cheat meals. That's just unrealistic honestly. A cheat meal here and there isn't a deal breaker. Hell, it's probably good to get some extra calories every now and then. As long as you stay consistent most days you're 100% fine to treat yourself every so often.

I eat at maintenance every fifth week. Maybe it is all mental but by 4 weeks in I'm very much over it lol. Usually feel a little more tired, less sharp and hungrier by week 4 so a one week maintenance is a nice reset for me personally

I take a break on the weekends and once a month go to my favorite Chinese buffet and surprisingly I haven't gained weight, waste line is still 28-30

The only reason why there was no change in the study it’s because they ended up eating the same amount of calories but one group made space for cheat meals. So the conclusion should be “you should stick to your deficit and once you learn how to track calories properly you’ll learn how to be always be on a deficit and still enjoy your fav foods”

Similar study ran the same thing and found that by doing those cheat meals/refeed days you retain more muscle

I didn’t take diet breaks because I thought it would make me lose weight I took diet breaks every like 10 pounds or so and went to maintenance because I was fucking hungry…. Plus it got me used to maintaining new weights

Just started back on weight loss 3 days ago after taking off a year. Gained back everything I lost, got burnt out. Maybe I’ll try taking breaks 🤷🏻‍♂️

Some peoples break end up being bulks it’s not advice for people with poor discipline bc most likely won’t go back to a deficit

They were both taking breaks, then
Lying about what you eat is nothing new

You need to take a very long break from that seed oil spray. It is really bad for your health.

Once you control your appetite you never eat the same now I have big problems with eating I don’t be in the mood to or have no desire to eat at times I have to force myself to put something in my stomach

But did they measure their hormones? There's more to a calorie deficit than just the impact on the thyroid... And a cheat meal vs an actual 1-2wk break of continuing with clean eating but at a higher caloric surplus. I hate dumb studies and videos like this without more context.
