The best diet is the one you will actually stick to. So if you have the discipline to never eat a cheat meal, that's great, you'll lose weight faster than others. But if never having your favorite foods again is a deal breaker, find a way to work it in without undoing all your hard work.

Cheat meals also serve a function in that they stave off binging. If you are following a diet you find restrictive, it's probably not going to work long term anyways but if you are following a diet that is reasonable long term, an occasional cheat meal will not only, (as he meantioned) temporarily boost metabolism but it will provide psychological relief and a moral boost. For me, depending on how hard I've been exercising, eating one cheat meal a week or every two weeks seems to work very well.

I'll have cheatmeals when I'm hitting a plateau trying to loose weight. I don't know what it is, but this seems to work for me.

If having a cheat meal a week keeps you on track with your weight loss, by all means go for it. Just remember that the weight you gain is water weight because most likely it’s carbs. Ex. my cheat meals can be over 70g of carbs, that’s 1.4kg extra weight, even though I remain in a deficit throghout the day. Took me a few weeks to realize that was what was causing the spike in weight the day after the meal, despite the overall trend being weight loss.

I had a cheat meal every Friday. I looked forward to it. I lost 54lbs and never got tired of my plan. I had another baby and gained it all back and now I'm losing it again and hopefully for the last time. I don't have cheat meals every Friday anymore because I simply don't crave anything off my plan. I'm eating whole foods and I cook my own food and it's so good. I have a healthy version of just about everything I want to eat so I don't have any cravings. But I will say, when I did have cheat meals, it worked wonders for me at that time.

100% agree.

I hate when people think they are going to stick to some severe diet forever. Then you see them in a year fat as shit and binging mcdonalds because “theyll just start their diet again soon”

The biggest issue with people on a "diet" is that they think they can only eat boiled potatoes, an egg and broccoli, i literally lost more than 4kg in two weeks eating the same as before just not that much and counting caloriers

I always eat whatever I want in weekends and control my calorie intake in weekdays. I've been dieting like this for more thsn a year now (I'm a compulsive eater so I always need to be dieting).
My goal is not losing weight, but maintaining it now

Sometimes if I want a cheat meal I keep it still with protein and such but I’ll go for a hasbrown, chicken nugget egg and cheese breakfast burrito from Chick-fil-A 36 protein still but says it’s 800 calories not the worst thing macro wise in the world tbh just has fried foods on it
