Cheat Meals - Yes or No?

Should you have cheat meals or cheat days when trying to lose weight?

This is a pretty delicate topic but it’s very common for people to be disciplined all week and then blow it all off on the weekend. In one day, you can literally destroy something you were building all week - cuz it honestly doesn't take very much to wreck your liver or your hormones.

There's a reason why you see people stay stagnant and never hit their goals. And it's often cuz they let the wheels come off during the weekends.

For most people, you can't get 100%of the results by only doing 80% of the work. Sure, it's important to celebrate milestones, but just because it's Saturday doesn't mean a boozy brunch with shitty food won't affect the progress you made all week.

If you believe in cheat meals or cheat days, that's totally fine, just get ready for a long road ahead. Sorry

It's called a lifestyle change and identity shift for a reason

I have a cheat day about once a month after losing 78 lbs. if you are going to eat a cookie make sure it’s the best tasting cookie around. If it’s going to be cheat food or meal make sure it’s worth eating.

I do one cheat meal once a week. In my opinion they’re important because they help me keep sane and balanced lol.

Pizza & chips every other Friday for evening meal.
Apart from that it’s fasting, running & eating completely clean.
Everyone needs a little treat.

Ever since I am allowing myself to indulge in my cravings time to time, i am having a healthier relationship with food.

I truly believe one of the biggest things to really losing weight is minimizing your stress levels . There are times i have had cheat meals twice a week but not crazy indulging probably a mc donalds meal or some type of burger and making sure im hitting the gym hard and have lost weight . When im at peace and just and happy i can truly feel the difference in my body im not worried about my next meal and im not thinking about food 24/7 sometimes i have to remind myself to eat

I definitely do a cheat day - I don’t go crazy crazy but I definitely loosen the buttons a little. It makes me feel “Undeprived” and helps me stay focused the rest of the week. It may slow my progress down a little but my sanity makes up for it lol

I eat like an animal on saturdays, it refuels my muscles from all the diet and hard training and keep losing almost two pounds per week

Wow, what you said is a light bulb moment for meI was wondering why I can't reach my goal. I look forward to the weekend so I can cheat, not any more. Thanks for the wake-up call
Keep up the good work

Totally agree! Unfortunately for some of us, myself imcluded, is that a cheat meal becomes a cheat week becomes a cheat month & totally off the rails!

Honestly, I've tried cheat meals they don't work for me. I haven't mastered enough discipline to allow myself to cheat. I always go overboard no matter how good my intentions are. Now, I'm eating well consistently (even when eating out) until it becomes a part of my life. It sure helps there aren't any birthdays coming up soon.😅

Here's my comment: Perfect is the enemy of good, and consistency and sustainability is what leads to long term success. If a cheat day gives you something to look forward to, and helps you stay on track the rest of the week, GO FOR IT. This is as much of a mental game as it is physical.

I don’t plan cheat meals. But they slip up sometimes once a week or twice a month. Mostly in social settings with friends. But the next day, I do my regular workout PLUS an EXTRA 40 minutes of cardio. (I already incorporate 20minutes of cardio each session. After cheat meal, it’s an hour)

I try not to stress over that stuff. I’ve reached my fitness goals for this year.

Finally something this guy said that actually makes sense. No need to eat like you’re at a kids birthday party every weekend

I have two cheat days every month. Gains are pretty consistent.
I started with once a week, but I feel less inclined and so I halved it. Even now, I feel less inclined to cheat and usually just reserve cheat days for special occasions like family gatherings or nights out.
A restrictive mindset where you say you'll only have a cheat Day if Thursday falls on an odd number date which is also near to or a full moon —will absolutely wreck you psychologically. Discipline isn't denial, it's presence of mind.

Be safe, y'all.

Olives and pickled gherkins as a cheat meal. Lemon juice in green tea as a cheat meal beverage

Yup! This is true. Honestly, it's okay to have things like cookies, sweets, or simple carbs as long as it is heavily moderated depending on what your nutrition plan looks like. Depriving yourself of those things can help to wreck your discipline as well because you can get cravings. It's all about balance.

In my opinion there really isn’t such a thing as a “cheat meal” it’s all about lifestyle balance and what your goals are if you can fit a snickers bar or a Big Mac into your macros as long as your still in a deficit you can still lose weight if that’s your goal. At the same time eat smarter, make foods you love just alter some ingredients going for higher protein lower calorie ingredients for instance replace sour cream with plain greek yogurt. The main focus should be on Whole Foods rather than processed foods of course but maintaining balance is just as important just understand what your getting out of the foods you eat.

I can personally attest this is correct. It's really easy to gain back the weight if you drink alcohol and eat whatever even one day of the week. Did the whole 30 at least 4 times per year then get blood work performed to watch cholesterol - it's drastically lower along with weight. But, have adversely affected results when I want a couple of glasses of wine and some carb centric meals.
