“EarthBound” or “MOTHER”?

Both of the series names make sense, Mother 2 being titled "EarthBound" outside japan fits a lot given what Ness's Journey is about.
Its very sweet how they include the American stuff in this book as well, containing as much of the games legacy as possible.

Mother 3: *Mother* saves us at the end

I change what I call it completely randomly or how I feel in the moment lmao but I tend to gravitate towards “Mother”

_SSBU_ (which had a disappointing lack of _EB_ content) also refers to the franchise overall as "EarthBound series" in English.

•Being a fan of the second game in the Mother Series, Either name would’ve fit well.

•Well… especially since it was called “Mother 2: Giygas Strikes Back” in Japan, but “EarthBound: The War Against Giygas” outside Japan, since it’s the only Mother game that released outside of Japan in 1995.
•So they called it EarthBound to prevent it from looking like a sequel, even though it is…

•That’s until we discovered EarthBound Beginnings (MOTHER 1) which we called, “EarthBound Zero”

•That’s how we found out Mother 1 in America…
•Until Nintendo Officially released it in America in 2015.

•Now Mother 3 is not yet named “EarthBound, ” and is the only Mother game that is not yet released outside of Japan.

I like to call Mother 3 “EarthBound 2” in my head because of that one meeting board in Fourside.

Also I just… *really* like the title of EarthBound, haha

I sort of alternate between calling it "Earthbound" and "Mother 2". I call it "Earthbound" if im talking about it with people who don't really know the series all that well but i refer to it as "Mother" if im speaking to people who do

The name Mother is much more connected to the main themes of the game, and alludes to both mother earth and Maria, it's overall a much better name

That being said, I like earthbound as a name in the context of Mother 2, it's a decent name and still fits to a degree

I’m definitely one of those who gravitates to calling it MOTHER but also Earthbound to people who aren’t familiar to the series localization. I love the uniqueness of the MOTHER name and its meaning to Mother Earth 🌏 and the style of gameplay it was aiming for❤

I normally say Earthbound when referring to the USA side of the releases.
I say Mother when referring to the rest of the worlds releases.

I remember sniffing those when that game was new. Ness smelled like crap, and so did most of the other ones. The mushroom and the banana smelled good, though.

I feel like they’re doing this to recognize the history of the game since earthbound is part of mother 2’s legacy, but you can tell officially that Hobonichi just wants to call it MOTHER which I much prefer. I feel like the earthbound name should’ve been swapped out a long time ago
