Does Mother 1 Happen AFTER Mother 3?

My 14 year old self thought the world created in Lucas’s image in Mother 3 was actually the Zelda series. I don’t know why I just found my old notebooks and my young self thought it was funny connecting Zelda and Mother, and I don’t remember why

My honest theory is that the disasters all happening in the same time acted as a way to purify the world, in other words Lucas was letting all the evil in the world out so he can recreate the world without it

I believe in this theory because I really like the idea of Magicant, PSI, and Sanctuary locations being remnants of the Magypsies’ powers that remained on Earth after they disappeared during Mother 3. I feel like that explains a lot of the weird mysteries about the first 2 games that otherwise don’t make a ton of sense.

I could potentially see it being like an endless loop of the world being reset but always leading to the same point in time. Kind of like Regular Show for example. Though that may be a bit of a stretch. And Mother 3’s ending does seem to imply that everything works out well in the end so who knows.

the thing that completely breaks this theory is that porky, in mother 3, is extremely old due to the effects of time travel. however, in mother 2, he is only about 12 because that was before he timetraveled into the future, and giygas connects mother 1 and 2’s stories together in order, so it wouldn’t make sense for porky to be 12 in the game

I don't think it's unimaginable that Lucas would create a world with some evil in it. No one is pure good or pure evil. Even someone like Lucas holds some darkness in them, even if he is overall a good person.

And Giegue wasn't fully evil either. He had some love within him, so I don't think it's out of the question that Lucas's world could have been Mother 1.

That said, I don't subscribe to the theory myself. It's very obviously not the author's intention, and I can't think of any strong reason to belive it. The story doesn't make more sense this way; it's just one of those "you can't completely disprove it" things.

Okay so the timeline kind of plays out like this
* Giegue is defeated by Ninten and co. and becomes Giygas due to his emotions
* Ness and co defeat Giygas, Porky flees to the future
* Lucas defeats Porky
So no, Mother 1 does not take place after Mother 3

I feel like the existence of Porky and Dr. Andonuts in Mother 3 (aka Giygas's right-hand-man and the scientist who helped defeat Giygas) already makes this theory impossible, since this theory means Giygas happened AFTER Mother 3. I suppose one could argue that Porky traveled to Mother 2 AFTER Mother 3 in order to help Giygas, but that's just blatantly false because of 1) all the memorabilia and references to Mother 2 in New Pork City that Porky added, 2) his appearance and age (how could he just suddenly become a child again?) and 3) the fact that Mother 3 ended with him being Absolutely Safe, if you know what I mean. In conclusion, basically this theory has more holes than - dare I say - even Sans Is Ness.

A brief correction, but Lucas doesn't recreate the world. We don't know exactly what happened, but all we know is that everyone is okay. Point is, the world is implied to remain the same and the apocalypse was averted.
Though Porky is still out there somewhere.

Lets get this straight,

The connection between the mother series are the final bosses,
For mother 1, it was giygas, who returned in earthbound, alongside porky who wasn't that much of a deal, who also returned in mother 3 as the final boss

So.... I WOULD have a point about the argument that Lucas's heart is pure...

My point was that: Lucas dind't pulled all the needles, only the major part of them, so there is evil in the new world beacuse Claus pulled some of the needles, thus passing the evil of his corrupted mind to the new world.

BUT, i went to do a little research about the theory to see if anyone came to the same thought and i stumbled at an interview where Itoi says that if Claus succeded to pull all the needles, the dragon would not create a corrupted world, but instead it would actually end all the life (including itself). And that would happen beacuse Claus is an "empty soul", and the dragon would reflect the emptiness, thus earasing everything.

So that killed my argument very quickly. Anyway, this theory still is a interesting way of thinking on the mother timeline.

Being a Loop is kinda ridiculous, i think letting Mother 3 just be one alternate universe from this saga where you finish the games for once it's just perfect, perfect story and perfect ending.

This timeline order is similar to the Erdrick trilogy in dragon quest and we all know Itoi loves that series.

Nope. Mother 3 takes place after Mother 2, and Mother 2 takes place after Mother 1.

Mother 3 doesn't happen first, unless porky time traveled to when he was a kid in mother 2/EarthBound, But still not possible. Porky could've done it as a kid and porky sealed himself in the absolutely safe capsule and there's no way of doing anything outside or inside the capsule and makes him live forever. Plus, mother 3 takes place in a dragon as an island and Mother 1-2 happen in earth, I think you should just play Mother 2-3 and Mother 1 if you liked the series. I beat all of the games and I'm saying this out of experience, cause how could porky travel back in time and how did he know who ness was in Mother 3? In the theater theres screenshots of Mother 2 so I wouldn't count Mother 1 as a part of the story. Mother 1 is like just there cause it is.
