In 1.19, gold and diamonds have reduced air exposure, coal also has reduced air exposure. Lapis supposedly has zero air exposure, but in my experience I've found lapis in cave systems but very rarely.

The air exposure rule does not apply to water caves or lava pools, so with a respiration helmet going through a water cave can be worthwhile.

Another idea is to bring a hoe and some bonemeal and find a lush cave, bonemealing the lush grass expands it onto stone, and if you have an efficiency V netherite hoe, you can destroy 1 layer of the stone floor thus more diamonds should spawn on that layer as the reduced air exposure no longer applies.

diamonds spawn more the lower you go, and bedrock spawns at y-59/y'60 so y-58 is the best level to mine diamonds, unless you only have stone/iron tools because of the deepslate. Strip mining is far more efficient in most cases, unless your mining in water caves.

Fun fact: the warden is the hardest mob to kill. Although unable to heal, you might as well be using your fist on the wither if you use netherite
