I live in the US but i was born in Spain and lived in Europe for more than 25 years, including Spain, France, UK and Finland. Not only all these things are cheaper in the US along with many others to be honest but also the salaries are much higher. Your money definitely stretches out more in the US.

My dad is a military vet who retired after 20 years, so he still gets privileges. They used to drive over to the closet base all the time to hit the commisary, BX/PX, and liquor store. It was all so much cheaper and there's no taxes for stuff bought on so make the drive, its worth it.

Howdy from Texas.
Jono, speaking of keeping clothes for years. While I was married to my second wife. She had come across an old photo album that had been lost years ago and found at the bottom of a junk filled closet at my mother's house. As she was looking through the album I heard her exclaim an expletive in a sharp tone of voice. When I asked her what was wrong she showed me a twenty five year old photograph of my first wife and I shortly after we'd been married. And pointed out that I was wearing the exact same shirt in that photo that I was wearing at that very moment. She got rid of it later on without asking because she hated my ex-wife. She called it " threadbare. " I called it " comfortable " she won that one.

I pay $39 a month for my Cell Phone Plan and that's unlimited everything (Data, Texts and Calls). Gas here in Northern KY is about $2.75 a gallon.

Today in Albuquerque, I filled up my car for $2.48 per gallon. My car has a 12 gallon gas tank.

Kat, I quit smoking in 20 seconds. I wadded up that pack in my car and screamed something along the lines of "DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MANY PAIRS OF SHOES I COULD HAVE IF I DIDN'T SMOKE!!!" Never looked back. Shoe level is truly indefensible though, lol.

Things like gasoline & cigarettes, beyond normal pricing in US stores can be found really cheap on Indian (Native American) Reservations. The reservations are not subject to having to add US federal or state taxes, so they can sell stuff for cheaper. Many people if it's relatively close by will go there for gas and cigarettes in particular.

I live in the US and I just bought gasoline at the local Native American Reservation and it cost me $3.08 per gallon. Off the Reservation costs like $3.80.

Fun fact: When the Green Bay Packers were playing in London, The Packers fans drank a local pub dry in the time it took to play the game.

As for the homes what you’re seeing is developer homes or homes being sold in overpriced areas you can always find home with big yards even land way cheaper by going through foreclosures. My first house was a 2 story house three bedrooms 2 1/2 bath through foreclosure for 31, 000 and this is no joke.

Gas in my area (40 miles north of Chicago) today is about $3.20 gallon. I still have my iPhone 11. Plans can really vary here. Alcohol prices can vary here as well depending on the store where it’s purchased or the venue. The only Starbucks coffee I drink is a tall black coffee. No fancy drinks for me. Same if I go to Dunkin’ Donuts. Regarding clothes. Depends where you shop.

Regarding phone costs in the US: I've got the cheapest ($15 a month) with 5 gigs of data and unlimited calls and text. WiFi is everywhere, most grocery stores, offices, hotels and Walmart. My home internet is $30 a month for 150mbps, which is more than enough. Petrol here is Florida is around $3.10/gal, but I have a BJ's club close to home and filled up yesterday for $2.62/gal if I use their credit card. It really saves money to shop around!

I have a coffee maker in my apartment, so I don't buy coffee on my corner store anymore, but a large cup of coffee will cost you $2 here where I live in NY. Also, a cocktail will set you back around $10 at a local pub and a beer around $5. Cigarettes are expensive here in the city, and a pack can cost between $15-$20, depending where you get them. It's usually big cities like here in NYC that things are more expensive, there's plenty of places in the US that are more affordable, especially for tourists.

The prices of beer in the U.S. have risen dramatically, in large part because of the high price of diesel fuel in the last 2-3 years. We Americans complain about inflation, even though it's been worse in much of the world. The strange thing about the recent inflation in the U.S. is that not all prices have risen. For example, computers and TVs are still extraordinarily cheap compared to decades ago. But inflation on food has been severe, especially at cheaper restaurants (prices are double what they were 5 or 6 years ago at Subway). Anything relatively inexpensive that takes up a lot of room in a delivery truck, like bread and chips, or is heavy, like all beverages, has seen big price increases.

It depends which US state you're in and which carrier you use, I have cheap phone $120.00 and a plan for seniors which is under $30 per month.

Like she mentioned, a lot of what she listed is shipped to Europe from the US. Imports cost more. Since Apple, Levi's, Starbucks, Haagen dazs, and even gas, are products of the US, they are cheaper by default.

Plus the US market is important and highly competitive. People will buy and will buy in huge quantities, so cheaper prices raise profits.
