This clip is interesting, not sure I agree.

We bought our house 10 years ago and paid it off in 7 years. That entire experience was SUPER memorable and intentional (and expensive!). Taking our kids to celebrate that effort at Disneyland was also a very expensive but memorable experience. Our kids got to facilitate in sending in large over-payments and watch the mortgage balance go down each payday. This is a huge monetary life lesson and memory for them.

Now they will watch as we save up to pay cash for new-to-us cars, home repairs, and a future family trip to Thailand (which will also cost a lot and be memorable).

Not every memorable experience has to cost a lot of money. And not every big purchase has to be memorable. Just because the 2 lists may or may not overlap means nothing.

However, when something does cost a lot of money, it DOES stick out in my mind as a big life moment. It does make the list of incredible things we were able to budget for and enjoy. And I think it's equally important to involve my kids in these things so they can see how to avoid debt, AND have all your needs and wants met.

Thanks to you guys, my wife and I are able to travel all of South Africa. We have managed to save so much money but not by cutting away who we are but looking at our spending from a broader perspective. We now experience more, see more, meet new people and discovering deeper into the cultures here. I’d love to say thank you in person but here is my thanks to you guys. 🔥💯✊🏼
