So I understand that Crossfit teaches strict form pullups as well as kipping, but what I don't understand is why the kipping pullups are necessary in the first place. They place a lot of unnecessary strain on the joints and completely fail at targeting the full range of muscle groups that a strict form pullup does. If the goal is to build up reps, why not simply substitute kipping pullups for lateral pulldowns?

Kipping pull-ups is just for ego of doing high reps and a risk of injury for your rotator cuffs

Do real strict pull-ups. No momentum from swing. That is how you do it.

Yeah good job. Good job teaching people how NOT to get contact with their back muscles. Good job teaching people how to avoid getting proper gains.
