Easiest Method to Knit a Chunky Blanket at Home

Not only is this easy, but it should also only cost you less than $20 to make, in less than an hour! It's a wonderful project to do on a weekend, with a friend or family member. I love making things with this thick chenille yarn. The options are endless!

For Sizing and Options:
- 30 x 50 (3 skeins of yarn) - 16 stitches
- 40 x 60 (4-5 skeins of yarn) - 20 stitches
- 50 x 60 (5-6 skeins of yarn) - 24 stitches
- 50 x 80 (7-8 skeins of yarn) - 24 stitches
The stitch size is about 2.5 inches. If this varies, or if you tighten the stitches on your first chain, then the width will be slightly different than the measurements here. If the measurement isn't to your liking after you do the first chain, then remove the chain (undo the stitches) and begin again to create the correct width.

If you have any questions, please ask as I'd love to help!

Need a Larger Blanket?

Here is a calculation you can use to determine approximately how many skeins you may need (for a medium-tight knit blanket). You can replace the 50 x 60 with whatever measurements you have:

A blanket 50x60: 50x60=3000 divide by 350 = 8.57 - 9 skeins.

Loved this! Thank you! I used to be so crafty but have gotten away from it. You inspired me to make something again, and this blanket looks so comfortable, that might just be what I will make
Love how creative you are 💕

That's pretty darn neat! Looks easy, anyone should be able to do it. I guess in theory one could line that blanket for extra warmth. I'm jealous of the blanket, I wish your heartbeat could be my lullaby, that everyday could end in the warmth of your loving embrace, but the blanket gets that privilege, oh to be the blanket haha :)

Well, I finally did it!!! I made a blanket watching your tutorial! I bought the exact same yarn from Walmart- mine was $6.84 a skein. I bought 9 skeins total- 3 maroon, 3 pink, and 3 cream and made a huge block colored blanket of all 3 colors that fits my queen size bed perfectly. It was really easy and I did it all in one evening (just a few hours). Thank you for the great idea, I plan on making more of these. The chenille yarn is SO SOFT! Your tutorial was super easy to follow, and for being a complete novice at doing anything crafty, I gotta say, it turned out really well. Even my husband is impressed with me!

Thank you!

By the way, what is your first name?

You can burn the ends together, light one end and press your other end to it and it fuses them

I get mine from Hobby Lobby.. how do you wash/dry the one you have on. They are heavy anyway but to wash and spread out! I’d appreciate the tip because I love your loved one.

I didn’t know one could make stuff like that without knitting needles. How interesting. I like the colors you picked. Chenille is so soft. Does it shed on my clothes since I wear a lot of black? I could see my 3 cats attacking/playing with the yarn while it’s being made. 😆. I assume you put your cats away for that construction. 😉. I have a grey tabby like yours.
I love your hair like that. Looks so pretty on you.
Oh also...Do you know if the blankets wash well? Cold, gentle cycle and air dry maybe ? Thanks for sharing the video and take care.
