How to Make Friends at the Gym

PRE-ORDER SHIRTS AT:
Hello my strong strong friends! So I get comments in my videos all the time asking 'why are all those people watching you?!' Although it would make me feel pretty cool if random gym goers wanted
to watch me lift, but the fact is, these are my friends! I've been able to grow a strong base of BFFs at the gym.
Whenever I wanted to get strong, or wanted to reach any kind of fitness goal, I realized that I needed to spend time in the gym. For most of us, the only way we're going to keep going back is if it's really fun! I've found, the easiest way to make it fun is to make some friends while you're there. I've found some of my best friends at the gym and I also met my boyfriend there.
When we start lifting or start something new, we feel awkward, maybe embarassed or like we don't know what we're doing. The great thing about being at a gym is that there are other people around. If they're not beginners like you they have been in the past and its great if their not beginners because now you have real life resources that you can learn from.
1. So my first tip for making a friend at the gym is: Just ask for a spot. Everyone needs a spot at some time in their life, so ask someone, or offer a spot to a friend. Be careful if your friend is benching over 500 pounds for a double, but in most cases they wont.
2. Next tip is to ask something simple like "Is my depth ok?" Or "Am I low enough in my squat" these mean the same thing, but this just a super simple way to open up a conversation with someone else. Before you know it, you could be talking about lifting and then your goals and the what kind of post-workout meal is best ::WINK WINK WINK:::
3. You can also continue the lifting conversation and find someone who looks kind of strong and ask them what they do for programming. This is how I got into powerlifitng. I made a friend who was super strong and he helped me when I ran the smolov base cycle.
4. Maybe the easiest tip yet is to compliment them! Now if you're a guy or just uncomfortable complimenting a girl on the fit of her lululemons, an easy and completely platonic way to get around this is to talk about a piece of equipment they have. Lifters are always trying new belts or wraps or knee sleeves. Ask someone what they're wearing, and how they like it.
5. Now this one might seem a little creepy, but not for me. An easy way to find other people that you might want to hang out with is to look at your Gym's instagram geotag or any tags they might already have. Most internet friends I have, turn into IRL friends... so Maybe you're not going at the right time as other people who are interested in what you're doing. This is also a good chance for you to find out if your gym has any social activites already.
6. If you're a powerlifting, bb, weightlifter, or strongman you will find people who are doing what you're interested in at a local meet. I've made so many pals from other gyms and all over the world just by going to meets and getting invoved in the community. Also if you've made some friends at your gym and hear about them competing, you should definitely go support them. Sometimes we compete and it doesn't seem like that big of a deal, but when our friends get together to support us, it feels really good. Also then when you're ready to compete, you'll have built a supportive community who will back you reaching your goals. Competing is so much more fun when you have a group of people who will buy you a beer or two after!
It would be great if you saw another strong strong friends in the wild or in the gym and then you guys can bond over being strong strong friends together.
I've talked about it a bit and you all seem excited about it. I'm super stoked, I think we've created a community of cool ass people, and thank you. Since going to expos, and people coming up to me and hugging me and saying my strong strong friend! I'm so excited and I hope you guys know that you're strong to me and keep being strong.
