Is 4K 240Hz a Waste? - Cheap vs Expensive Monitors
Many believe that a 4K 240Hz monitor is a waste of money and will say things such as surely even the most expensive graphics card on the planet couldn’t achieve such a high resolution and refresh rate, so why bother buying one?

We’ll I'm glad I asked myself that, and now I’m going to answer me by laying down the law as someone who's reviewed an ungodly amount of monitors on, is 4K 240Hz really worth it, or are you wasting your money.

Now I don’t think many will need much convincing that these new 32” 4K 240Hz OLED monitors which are all the rage are excellent displays bringing by far the best image quality we’ve ever seen to PC monitors, Don’t get me wrong, they certainly aren’t perfect, but they are very good. However still to this day the most popular graphics card on steam is an RTX 3060, a card which was never never created to run games at 4K, let alone 4K 240fps, so while us enthusiasts may be far more capable of enjoying a monitor like this with an RTX 4090, should the average gamer even consider such an expensive display?

Maybe, and here's why.

I have an AW3423DWF and I just got the new 3225df and I absolutely love it. I wouldn’t go back to the gen 1 panel especially at 1440p. The extra 80 hz is nice as well, but colors and detail is insane on this new gen 3 4k compared to that gen 1 1440. I miss Ultrawide but not enough to go back

240hz will be displayed when browsing and going through menus. the smoothness is nuts. a 60hz monitor just looks like it's stuttering in comparison

As a content creator who does videos for rock bands the high refresh rate is very helpful also colour accuracy and HDR performance

I can attest that its worth it. I have a 3070 and just picked up the alienware 4k oled on sale that you posted about, and even on low settings, I get great performance, and the panel looks so good that the game looks better regardless of lower settings. Still get 200+ in overwatch, and 60+ for story games like Ratchet and Clank. Everything else from media consumption and productivity feels like a level up with this panel type and resolution compared to my ultrawide alienware ips display I upgraded from.

People who cry because of the price tag: buying an GPU/new rig every 2-3 years, no problem.
Buying a monitor that many users use for 5+ years, crying all day.

That makes no sense.

I am waiting for LG to come out for an MLA 48 inch oled tv. Like the g lineup. 4k 144hz is plenty fast for me and the peak brightness is superior than any monitor on the market today.

The biggest thing I think people forget also is there's loads of people that use monitors to game with their consoles. And both PS5 and Xbox series X can do 120 at 4K. So even if you don't have a PC but you use console gaming then 100% you should get a 4K monitor

why 225 fps cap? has the rule of thumb changed? it was always 3-5 fps under max. i keep mine global capped at 237

Now that we have frame interpolation 4K240hz is practically necessary to leverage the capabilities of modern hardware.

1000FPS video cards and 1000Hz monitors are definitely the real endgame, but I agree that these new OLEDs and Mini LEDs are definitely helping lower FPS to look better. Thumbs up!

Anyone who thinks this, remember that there is more to gaming than just keeping up with the latest titles and never looking back and remember that you don't need a locked 240fps to benefit. 80% of my backlog would run above 200fps at 4k on my current GPU. That said, I've abandoned monitor sizes for immersive gaming, so 32inch 4k is a waste, and no display above 32inch exists at 4k 240hz, so not worth it for me yet.

Glossy 4K 240hz, 480hz 1080p sounds perfect to me if you play mostly FPS, single players and use it for work

This was the video I needed, Thankyou.
I have seen the AW3225QF for
$/£810 and thinking of upgrading from a PG32UQ, but I'm still not sure the cost will be worth it.

We need a dual mode that allows you to switch on the fly from 1440p to 4k & vice versa.

I love paying a premium for a monitor that I have to run at 100% brightness and still lacks any kind of punch for SDR and HDR!
