Is 4K 240Hz OLED a Mistake? - QD OLED vs PHOLED
ASUS is releasing a glossy 4K 240Hz QD OLED gaming monitor in 2024, but with PHOLED right around the corner many are wondering if buying the ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM is a good idea.

"This 240hz 4k OLED monitor is the end game buy this monitor" then 3 weeks later "this 4k 240hz oled monitor is overhyped wait for PHOLED monitors that's end game".

If you don’t NEED the display, waiting is not going to hurt you at all. Likely, prices will lower and the next gen of this product will likely be even better. Plus, there’ll likely be competition from other companies to drive prices down or have better products too.

Biggest mistake is no dp 2.1 it's pretty disappointed because they do have a 32 inch 4k 160 hz fast ips with dp 2.1 for about 1600

For me those specs are perfect, the only concern I have is the DP 1.4

The biggest issue is the DisplayPort 1.4 it’s worthless with this wtf

1:38 how is that an issue? my monitor has like 300 nits and it's already too bright to view on a dark room, you only need more than that if you're with your windows open on a sunny day

The speed at which monitor tech advances is the reason why I am unwilling to spend more than $500 on a display. When I can get last year‘s model for half the price, I’ll just wait until last year‘s model is a significant enough upgrade over my current display. No sense spending $1000 on a monitor that will be worth $400-$500 a year later.

Even with hdmi2.1, it can't do lossless 4k240hz hdr(68.56 Gbps). And even with dp2.1 which, iirc, AMD has at the moment, needs UHBR 20, while the 7900 xtx only has UHBR 13.5 which would need 4:2:2 or DSC, so no current graphics card would be there for it... unless they do one of those use two cables for one monitor shenanigans. I feel like the whole connector situation just kinda sucks right now, nobody is doing dp 2.1, let along UHBR 20, yet the monitors' bandwidth requirements just goes up and up, if I'm getting this correctly, there is no known way to power this monitor lossessly, as neither hdmi2.1 nor dp1.4 would suffice, unless 2 links are allowed.

The forever bane of pc gaming. As soon as you buy a part, something better gets released

Just hoping for 144hz/120hz models with this panel.

The upcoming asus 4k monitor is dead on arrival with DP1.4 with DSC. Nope. I never understand the brightness complaints. My Lg oled 27 inch is just perfect when it dimms. Feels like being flashbanged if not. People wanna use their monitor outside in direct sunlight or what? Also zero burn in from playing world of warcraft with static elements for 6 hours+

I was told that initially PHOLED(blue) will offer a bit more brightness, but the longevity is actually expected to be shorter??

Which made me lose most of my interest...

Can you please review the KTC M32P10?

No, there is literally no way i could wait for one more year, im struggle and waited for so long to get my hands on 32" qd oled, 240hz flat display with glossy finish, i dont care if that pholed gonna be better or not, never buy the promises. If its gonna be extremely better, which we dont know for sure, and it probably isnt, but if it would, then i just gonna buy another one. I have 30+ AAA games bought on my steam account which i didnt even start just because i have lcd display with matt finish currently, because all other options like playin on PC using TV as a monitor (with 42" inch+ screen size) or that curved oleds is just not for me. Well, we will see, i hope sooner then later.

Of course their only releasing only a 400 nits monitor to force a upgrade when they release the newer models

PHOLED has been confirmed to be "fully available" for 2024. Unless for some odd reason it's only available for TVs, I don't see any reason to think we won't see PHOLED monitors in 2024, 2025 at the latest.

Got that LG UltraGear 1440p OLED because of your review and I love it. But I think I’ll stick to that instead of this 4K because I only have a 4080. If I had the 4090, I’d be all over this monitor.

If its still using the wrong subpixel layout its gonna fail hard.
We need JOLED or any other TRUE RGB OLED to make it a proper desktop monitor.
