For any Beatles song, Google "The Beatles Bible", and then the name of the song. It will give the background story and recording details of all of their songs. For this one it goes into the newspaper story that Paul read about a runaway teen. It even has the real teens reaction to the song. The Beatles Bible is a great resource of information about the songs. The song entries usually include quotes from the Beatles, and producer/arranger George Martin.

Love this song. "She's Leaving Home" is one of the songs from their 1967 masterpiece album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Lots of great songs such as "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", "A Day In The Life", "When I'm Sixty-Four" etc.

This story is real, Paul McCartney read this story about a girl who left home and he wrote this song about her. This girl actually listend to this song after the album came out and she understood that it was about her..
Everything was real... And PM was 25 years old at that time...

One of my favorite Beatles songs, from one of my favorite Beatles albums!

Interestingly, Paul McCartney based the song on a newpaper story about a real runaway girl, Melanie Coe; while Paul invented most of the story himself, it turns out that one detail, the "man in the motor trade" was almost spot on: the boyfriend had previously worked in the car business, but was a croupier in a casino at the time. And, as you guessed, Jamel_AKA_Jamal, by the time she returned home 10 days later, she was pregnant (later having an abortion).
Also interestingly, Melanie had met McCartney a few years earlier where he selected her as the winner of a dancing/lipsync contest on a British TV show, "Ready Steady Go!"....
