Pączki is Polish for “delicious.” Ok, not really… But with its deep-fried dough and sugary jam filling, it might as well be! Sylwia Tomaszkiewicz’s great-grandfather created a secret recipe for pączki that’s still a hit in Warsaw—so much so, the family bakery churns out about 800 to 1,000 of them a day.

Shoot. I had a couple of paczki when I visited Warsaw but not from this shop. Paczki and other Polish pastries and cookies are very tasty indeed. 👍

They’re very popular in Michigan! Especially abundant between Fat Tuesday and Fat Thursday.

I am Polish, I love pączki but not all of them. Actually the ones with jam and frosting on top is my least favorite type. Also a lot of bakers make pączki very greasy, which is a no-no to me. Last year we got a store in my hometown which makes excellent pączki - not greasy at all, fluffy, and with suuch cool fillings - coconut, halva, mango, so good!

Holy shit, didn't think pączki (which are usually translated into doughnuts) are actually a polish tradition!

I've had these in plum (fave), apple, rose, lemon, raspberry, custard, and blueberry.

These are very popular in Western Michigan as there are many Polish families. I enjoy the raspberry ones, fun fact they are called Berliners in Germany.

Those jelly doughnuts looks good! Those must taste delicious! Looking at those reminded me of the Jewish Sufganya (singular) / Sufganyot (plural) which most Israelis serve during Hanukkah.

So when I was in Warsaw a few years ago, I had one of these by accident while looking for breakfast. I went and bought 3 more immediately. Great stuff!
