When topping up, always use the same oil as in the engine. Otherwise, you're mixing two different additive packages together potentially making the additives less effective. To get the full benefits you need to run a full crankcase of R&P for ~15, 000 miles (according to Valvoline).

Does that mean with Valvoline R&P your self-changing oil will stop being self-changing? If you're a quart low every 600 miles, you have a full oil change in 3000 miles.
