✍️ Summary:
Boosts Cognitive Function

Walking 10,000 steps a day has a remarkable effect on cognitive function, a benefit that might surprise many. The brain, like any other organ in the body, relies heavily on oxygen and nutrients to function efficiently. When you walk, your heart rate increases, as does the blood flow throughout your body, including to the brain. This surge in blood flow carries with it more oxygen and essential nutrients, which fuel brain cells and keep them in top condition. According to “Healthcare Journal," walking regularly essentially works like a booster for your brain’s overall performance.

I believe the original 10k steps came from Japan. An advertising agency was trying to sell sneakers and the Japanese symbol for 10k looks like a person who is walking. It is my understanding there are no real studies supporting the need for 10k. That doesn’t mean walking is not good for you. It is and walking and physical activity are important and does what you say. It is just not necessary to do quite that many. Some studies support that a lot of these benefits start to kick in somewhere around 4.5k. Studies also support maximum heart strengthening is achieved with 7, 300 steps and maximizing longevity (assuming cancer, etc. doesn’t get you) based on your genetics only requires about 8, 800 steps. So, while walking 10k won’t hurt, it is not necessary to walk quite that far to maximize your benefits from it. This is important to know if you’re elderly.

You do not need a track, treadmill, or a trail, all you need is tenacity.

I literally pace back and forth for 2 hours a day in my backyard every morning and walk 10-15K steps. Anyone can do it.
