To put it in more simple terms…

1. LOTR Trilogy
2. Hobbit Trilogy

Fellowship is so good, and what’s most impressive about it is that it can kind of stand alone. All of the characters got full arcs (Frodo committing to taking the ring, Aragorn proving he wouldn’t take the ring, Legolas and Gimli allowing another race to be responsible for the fate of the world). If it was the only one you saw, it would still be a completely satisfying experience.

“too many endings” is literally the worst criticism of ROTK I’ve ever heard… and people have been saying it for almost 20 years 😒 I wanted more endings!!!

Just watched each of the extended editions of the LOTR movies for the first time when they came to theaters earlier this week and Return of the King left me sobbing.

Beautiful movies, perfect trilogy, 11/10, no notes!

The best hobbit movie is the first. I liked the settings and the music (especially "The Misty mountains cold"), the lord of the rings references (like the blade that was broken or Galadriel which was not in the book but it was nice to see her again). I liked the insertion of Radagast but not that of Azog. Azog wasn't in the book, but Bolg was (Azog is still a real character in the LOTR universe, but he was killed by Dain long before the events of The Hobbit). They could use Bolg as the main villain. The second film is not at the level of the first but it's still good, taking away some unnecessary parts of the plot (Like the barrel scene or the love story between Kili and Tauriel). Smaug was amazing, and to me, he's the best dragon to ever hit the big screen. I actually liked the third movie. It annoys me a little that they took the battle of the five armies in the book, which was a chapter, and made it into a film of almost 3 hours, and important parts of the extended version were not shown in theaters. I don't know if it's the worst of the hobbit movies, but in the end it's an epic movie with some nice action scenes: like the one where Thorin recovers from the dragon's sickness (the scene where he sinks into the golden floor, very nice as scene) and the 13 dwarves leave Erebor during the battle. I liked Smaug's death (the details when he "Swim in the air" with the cries of pain and the light fading from his eyes). However in the book it was Bilbo who killed the dragon (Bilbo found the spot where the black arrow had hit, a bird heard it and eventually went to tell Bard about it) and maybe this version was better. I liked the "I will have war" and the arrival of Dain, with the battle between dwarves and elves etc. and moving scenes like Thorin's death or Bilbo seeing Gandalf again after 60 years are beautiful. It's just my opinion of course :D

I agree with your Hobbit ranking! But we have the opposite for the LotR trilogy. 😂 Fellowship is the 🐐!

Haven’t seen the hobbit trilogy or ROP yet so just LOTR trilogy personal ranking
3. Two towers (Still good though and I love the last hour of it! Especially Sams speech)
2. Fellowship (such a great start to the story and love the world building. I want to live in the shire!)
1. Return of the king (I go back and forth between this and fellowship but this one is the epic conclusion to the adventure! And I don’t mind the long ending either;)

Return of the King Extended Edition is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time, and the LOTR trilogy as a whole is perfect and just such a great story.

Return of the King
Fellowship of the Ring
Two Towers
Desolation of Smaug (genuinely good in my opinion and fun)
Battle of the Five Armies (underrated and faster paced the previous two in my opinion)
Unexpected Journey (too cartoony with a solid second hour but the first half is dreadfully boring imo)
