CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Just as Piggy (Danuel Pipoly) begins to gives a speech about working together, Roger (Gary Rule) kills him with a boulder.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Harry Hook directed this second screen adaptation of William Golding's cult novel about a group of British schoolchildren who revert to savagery when marooned on a deserted island. The new adaptation replaces British school children with a group of American military cadets and instead of a shipwreck, their plane crashes into the sea. The children swim ashore onto an island and try to fend for themselves, with the only surviving adult wracked with fever and crazed with pain. As the children get the feel of the island, the group separates into two different camps: Ralph (Balthazar Getty) and his followers prefer to act civilized and want to expand their efforts toward finding a way off the island; on the other hand, Jack (Chris Furrh) and his band revert to painting their faces, carrying spears and exploiting the island for survival. When the chances for rescue become less and less likely, the two factions go to war with each other, with tragic results.

In times of crisis and panic, the voice of reason is the first casualty

"We gotta be sensible and make things work"

As last words go, that's better than what a lot of people get.

When you break it down, this is one of the most depressing scenes ever. Piggy makes a point of humanity working together and is murdered by someone for it almost instantly. It’s depressing in its simplicity. You may laugh, but we’ve never moved past that as a human race.

The fact that everyone stayed with Jack shows just how savage they are.

I feel so bad for Piggy. People are mean to him, the crying scene with his glasses made me want to hug him, and then he died horribly.

"Ralph, who hears the rock falling, dives and dodges it. But the boulder strikes Piggy, shatters the conch shell he is holding, and knocks him off the mountainside to his death on the rocks below."
This is exactly how Piggy's gruesome death is explained in the book.

I like how the rock just bounces off his head

Why i love this scene is it highlights a lot of things. Both in the book and the movie. Piggy uses the conch, which represents democracy, and be is ignored and shunned because of it. Piggy is still wearing his clothes, again showing how he has still kept his sanity and rationality. Then he is cast away by the others and everything he represents.

I really feel sorry for piggy, I truly do.

He never made it back.

The fact that Piggy's death did not immediately make all of them stop is insane

Imagine piggy stands back up and says, “Tis but a scratch.”

I typed in “people die when they are killed” and this was the first result.

When Ralph said "You're not gonna get away with this" he was obviously talking about the police dealing with them once they were rescued, but Jack thinks Ralph was single-handedly going to avenge Piggy so that's why Jack wanted to also kill Ralph. In this movie anyway, I don't know why Jack wanted to kill Ralph in the book.

Seeing this scene, specially 1:47, as a kid, it still haunts me years later. His death basically marked the end of innocence and whatever attempt at reasoning there was in the group.

It's sad that we didn't get to know his real name

I know they tried not to make this TOO terrifying, but let's be honest, he should have ended up a mangled pile of gum from that rock.

They literally just nonchalantly murdered a child

The fact they all break down crying when they're rescued at the end shows that after all that went down they're still Kids who committed horrible things to one another all because they refused to survive together
