I think the 20 degree was chosen because the solar array of tianzhou could not be re-folded and folding the solar panel of tianhe will be risky and time consuming, therefore, to avoid collision between the solar panels, only 20 degree turn was made to demonstrate the capability of robotic arm assisted undock, turning, and redock, instead of docking at the side, it redocked to the forward port, that is still a complete procedure to re-dock a module, only difference is that it is docked to the same port in this case

Technically the CNSA can keep attaching main modules to build bigger space station.

i think multiple smaller companies focusing on specific capabilities is a good thing.

Wow, laser communication satellites that will come in handy esp if there are areas not served by ground stations and of course, in times of war when based stations are ex communicated. Also, the bigger bandwidth from a chain of satellites can assist to enhance interplanetary communication esp between the lunar base and earth in the future. Would be happy if dong fang hour can present a comparison of the development of laser communication system between China, US and Japan. Thanks guys

It probable takes a lot of energy to move the module completely to the final position and back again, so a 20 degree shift was chosen instead.

I would agree with the 3rd choice with the robotic arm. My guess is they were testing the arm if it can hold up to the torque on the arm when it needs to stop or slow down the mass it is moving and to see how fast it can move it because of the torque when it needs to stop it.
As for the laser interlink, not only the performance goes up but also security reason, hard to intercept and hack into a laser link or disrupt it with electronic jamming...at least that is what I think.

I guess it's too time-consuming to run a full test for transferring the module completely. It took 47 mins to move the module 20 degrees away and back, so if Tianhe wants to move the module to the right position (90 degrees), it might take 3 hours or more.
Besides, according to the official announcement, the 6th Jan test was to see whether the robot arm can handle a heavy object without damaging itself. So it might be just a feasibility experiment.

20deg move probably bcos the test is about manual operation? so just testing of manual dettach and attach?

What are the mechanical similarities of the Chinese robotic arm and the ISS Canadarm?
