The planners for the ISS had planned for it to look sleek and efficient as well, but it became apparent that exposed cables were just easier to maintain.

“It’s not about size, but about how you use it”
Shit that’s what I thought too when I first got a girlfriend- oh wait nvm

Nice to have a new modern space station

Fun fact, the unappealing mechanical parts of the ISS are all there for a reason, and because it works efficiently, it doesn’t matter if it looks good, it just has to work

Almost every engineering or IT room looks sleek and futuristic until after a few months. Then it becomes an altar for worshipping wires.

Imagine being criticized as being mechanical while intentionally being mechanical.

Tiangong looks like those Spacestations in sci-fi films.

Tiangong is more modern and doesn't require as much wiring as the decade old ISS that requires regular maintenance because systems are failing.

Wow! China 🇨🇳 built its own space station in less than 2 years! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍

Tiangong also hasn't had time to build up storage yet. It'll eventually get cluttered. Mir was a notorious mess, but it looked pretty sleek when it began.

Iss is a product of multinational cooperation whereas china is single handedly competing with all the major powers all at once. You will really have to appreciate them for what they have done for their people. Let whatever the motive they(elites) had behind to do this for their people.

My small room is also very spacious, because I recently got robbed.

The amazing thing is that the Chinese built it themselves in just a few years.

"Aesthetically pleasing" is never more efficient than "mechanical looking".

Early images of the ISS also looked more sleek and clean than the current ISS.
My guess would be china's station will go the same way.

ISS is a multinational space station while China is a one nation space station. It’s like comparing an apartment unit to a fourplex apartment building. If you want to compare relevant (living & working) space or size then compare China space station to the Japan module of the ISS. Or compare China space station to the U.S. module of the ISS. Or compare China space station to the European module. Or compare China space station to the Russia module.

there was purpose of the ruggedness of ISS..its all about accessiblity of the tools and quick response if any technical emergency occurs.quick troubleshooting... even the russian space station did the same thing.they couldve made it plain if they wanted and if they focused on the aesthetics... in space research, its not about aesthetics .its about how your space station should look aesthetically.... its about purpose and functionality..

congratulations China. your space station looks more visitor friendly, but the ISS has been up there for awhile. may God bless us all.

If you think it's easy to maintain wired connected equipment, you're definitely not an IT network maintainer who maintains hundreds of switching hubs with cables running everywhere.
