I have had the classic 24 for five years now, just for residential use, love it, plenty of power, no major problems up to now, they are nice machines- Nice presentation!

I'm starting my 3rd year with the Classic model. Had the surging problem after the first year but a quick carb cleaning fixed that and no problems since. Nice job presenting the two models.

The dealer vs box store myth has some truth to it at least around me. The dealers often stock the higher end models that the box stores don't stock. Sometimes the box store will allow orders to be placed for the higher end machines, but never stock them.
I really like my 1336 Ariens. Only reason I keep others is for specific jobs. Like smaller machines for tight areas, decks and roofs.

For a number of years now, I've been using our 22 inch Ariens Compact which has been great. Only had to replace the fuel shut off valve and drill / clean out the plastic pilot jet. This year I'll have to replace the light bulb and that's been it for over 10 years (other than routine maintenance).

Prior to that, we had a REO! Yes, REO snow blower which was even more compact and a work horse if I do say so myself. Would have still been using it if it hadn't been for a brass auger drive gear / coupler disengaging when blowing snow from time to time, which made me put it out in the shed and buy the Ariens. My father bought it used back in the early 1970's and it worked great right up until around '05 - '10? It has the craziest wind-up crank handle that you have to then slam up to get it to turn the engine over. No pull cord. It's hard to describe.

It looks just like these two images that I found online.

Have to choose the compact just due to the cast iron gearbox. Compact infers smaller, but both look about the same size to me.

2yrs ago I went with 2021 Compact 24
Very Pleased by Quality of Build Solid Machine ..
Almost talked into by dealer Toro 826..
After talking with 1 mechanic told me Toro’s Auger Gear Case & Engine Carburetor don’t hold up..
Ariens is built like tank ..!

It's better to get from a dealer they know how to set it up properly and they seem better at warranty work also. I found that riding mowers at bog box stores don't cut level for most time deck not leveled correctly. IMO

It’s how it’s Assembled, an it’s just FINAL assembly, just putting the handle bars up, chute attached, an oil in motor. Big box store and dealers are the SAME. I do like the brigs an strat 205 over the lct 208. Idk that’s just me though

How does the quality and durability compares between an old Ariens 932006 vs a new equivalent Ariens ? How long should a new one last with good maintenance ?

A big box store is a dealer. I'm stuck between Deluxe 24 and Compact 24. For $100 more, it's a no brainer to get the Deluxe. But, I have limited storage space. So then it's about is it worth it to get the bigger one anyway? Well, I'm thinking probably. It's a snow blower: When in doubt, just go bigger. The classic doesn't have power steering, has an aluminum gear case, lower power, gear case 3 yr. instead of 5 yr warranty (Consumer).

A 'product' from a big box store vs product from reputable dealer certainly is a thing... and it has to do with Walmart, although it may be for some other retailers also. Dell Computers shipped 'the same computer' but its motherboards and power supplies used cheaper components so they could achieve Walmart's demands on price points. That is the example I know as fact, but I am sure there has to be others. These snowblowers, no I think they are all the same.

I disagree with your statement about build quality, retail vs. dealer . Not the same quality, my John Deere dealer told me dealer supplied unit is a better built machine . I questioned them several times about this . Why do you think box store unite are cheaper than dealers ? not just a markup of pricing . Quality of the unit . I just took delivery of an Ariens 30 inch Platinum SHO on December 18 . Purchased through my J D dealer, not Lowes, Home Depot . Many other advantages of going through a dealer than a box store . repairs, etc .
I will discuss this issue all day . Appliances are the same, plumbing fixtures too . The list goes on and on . Your video here is great to compare units . Thanks . Dealers absolutely know where the unit is purchased from. My John Deere dealer even registered my Ariens plus a free 5 year warranty came with mine . Sorry, no box store

good video! I have a old Ariens st724 from the 80s, my dads old snowblower given to me over 20 yrs ago and it finally died last year. Thinking of getting the classic 24 but dont really want a blower that has a weaker engine then my old snow blower so I might spend more and get the deluxe 24. How reliable are those ariens ax engines made by LCT?
