There are albums that define personal eras in my life. Things I can put on and remember where I was and perhaps most importantly, who I was, when I came across these masterpieces. I’ve listened to a lot of music in my life and there really aren’t all that many straight up front to back masterpieces. Lots of great music. Lots of great music, but complete expressions or statements of identity. Seminal work that somehow magically defines the artist and who I was when I found them, that shit is special.

I wanted to share with you all an artist that made such an impact on me. He’s made loads of amazing work and I’ve been happy to share a lot of it in various mixes through the years, but tonight and with his permission, I’d like to share with you all, my favorite of his work. Dark side of the Mental. There is just something about it that hits different. For who I was when I found it, this was that one album that seemed as if it was just made for me. It defined an era in my life. It was when I found my own light in the darkness. I’ve spent so many nights with my emotions just plastered against the wall with this just quietly playing in the background. It’s a special album to me and I am happy to share it with you. I am in no way exaggerating when I say that your quintessence mix changed the course of my life. Introduced me to the whole genre, I used to fall asleep listening to it. Interstellar also. Since then your uploads (and other trip hop mixes) have massively contributed to the soundtrack of my life up until this point. Currently listening to this while getting some work done. Ahh this album, unlike you i can't remember how, when, and who i was when i first stumbled upon it, my memories of those time are... cloudy i'd say, one thing is sure after all these years it still feel as impactful as it did then, one of the very few albums i never stopped listening, truly a masterpiece indeed

This project, some Al'Tarba, some Gasoline, and the album called Monolith by Requiem... thats all Ive been able to find of this particular style of abstract hip hop. Its too up tempo to be trip hop, its its own thing, and I want more, but theres so few making music like this...

Big ups! What we need (again) in these distinct times of unease is deep dark, funky as shit, dystopian trip hop ... I am deeply privileged to be still here, as many comrades were not afforded the same! But the vibes are the same as they were in the bleakest, acid washed days of the mid/late 90s.
Roll up, light up, slither down, deep into the darkness and find the light! Burn that fucker bright! - Hell was just around that last corner, as we step out through the dub haze!
