George Lucas just confirmed he's Darth Vader: "I killed Obi Wan".

Killing Obi Wan was like killing Dumbledore. That left the hero with the special gift vulnerable and alone.

Lucas knows how to write! He’s right when the main characters always have plot armor and protection then it’s less interesting but when the main characters can die and no one in the universe is safe from plot armor it does make it much more interesting.

See, being born in 1994, I of course knew thru pop culture that Vader was Luke's father, and Luke and Leia were twins. You could not escape that.
So that scene of "there is another." I only ever thought of Leia, because I was already spoiled the surprise.

Good point. All the dog fights between The Falcon and TIE fighters with 4-6 main characters on board were anything but suspenseful.

And yet NO ONE ever thought Luke could die because of that line. They just wondered who the other one was, and concluded Leia. Which was confirmed in the very next movie.

It also hints at the original ending to return of the jedi when he was originally gonna have luke turn to the dark side at the end

George Lucas is sounding like George Martin.

In the 1980 theater release, that line was hard to understand, so many did not get it anyway. It was redubbed in later versions.

He wasn't talking about another Jedi. He was talking about a SEQUEL. "Another" movie!

I WISH Yoda had said that in a Geordie accent

Leia was a prisoner and her fate was unknown to the Jedi. Luke could turn or die. Yoda senses that the other is Vader and this is why they don't tell Luke to kill him when he comes back.

Despite the shoddy dialogue Lucas is a creative genius

Looking back now, and with the addition of all these newer shows, he could also be talking about Ahsoka or Ezra, since ny that point in the timeline he was aware that Ahsoka survived Order 66 and that Ezra existed

If you have a clip of George talking, you're getting a thumbs up from me

I always had a head canon that Yoda was talking about Anakin

It's ironic how he'd do the same thing with Anakin in Revenge of the Sith and follow-through that time.

"Is he not the chosen one? Is he not to destroy the Sith and bring balance to the force?"
"So the prophesy says."
"A prophesy, that misread could have been."

Yoda just did not like Luke very much. Both Obi Wan and Yoda knew about Leia. No need to remind Obi Wan. He was the first to hold her after all.
