I saw this years ago then, in a meeting at work, there was a French person who kept doing that and I had to keep biting my lip to avoid my laughter bursting out. That was a very painful meeting.

He's in a league of his own with his gestures, facial expressions and observational comedy. And very affable.

The noise thing is so true!! It’s not my first language but it was my grandparent’s first so growing up I learned it along with the odd intermittent grunting and I’ve never had my abilities questioned in France and I attribute that to the and ehhhhs between actual words 😂

I'm Flemish and we do this too. There even used to be a game show "Zeg eens euhm..." (Say errr...) where people were challenged to speak without using this sound, and failing miserably.
This interpretation of that habit is hilarious. Well done Mr. McIntyre 😂

I wish Michael McIntyre had been my French teacher at school.

French do this because they verbs in 1st person singular unusually ends with vowel sound, so is natural. I love liaising to French people when they talk in English they have such a cute accent.
