How to Replace & Fix a Broken iPad Screen

How to Replace and Fix a Broken iPad Screen. I take a "crack" at replacing a shattered iPad digitizer touchscreen. I show you the steps involved to get your iPad looking like new. It's quite amazing really. I don't feel like this should even be possible. This video shows you how to remove the broken touchscreen and replace it with a replacement. This video only covers replacement of the touch-screen or sometimes called a digitizer.

Put shrink wrap on the screen before removing and all that glass will stick to it instead of it going all over.👍 Nice videoclip

Thanks for posting this - it helped reduce my nerves a ton! A few cautions for your audience - I have an iPad Air (v1 - model 1474) and my connecting cables were on bottom right. Also, I recommend wearing protective eye wear - many of the glass screen shards can scatter as you pry.

Amazing video! This really helped me out.
At first I had a fear of trying to repair my brothers iPad, and breaking it even more.
I’ll just show him this video, and tell him it’s not THAT complicated. 👌

Thank you. It really gave me confidence to know that you started not knowing how to do this (meaning not very experienced like me) but eventually figured it out. Good job on this video!

Tip: be VERY careful with the glass! I’ve been fixing iPhones and iPads for several years, and the iPad is CONSIDERABLY more frustrating to fix. While the iPhone is one entire screen module, the iPad has not only the glass, but a digitizer under. Be extremely careful in avoiding touching the digitizer, and be hateful with glass exploding in your face. The glass may get everywhere, so be careful with your eyes, mouth, nose and even shoes. Best of luck to everyone, if anyone has questions regarding replacement let me know.

Thanks for sharing this.
My iPad 4 dropped a couple of weeks ago, and got cracked at the bottom, right below the home button, while also leaving a few cracks on the bezel sides as well a very long crack that goes from the bottom to the top.
Mind you, it had the original Apple SmartCover closed, when it dropped.
It's still usable, but I don't think I could all that by myself. Might try dropping it to a friend who does repairs.
Regardless, I'm kinda pissed by the poor quality of such expensive items.
Not even my Note 3, that dropped a couple of times, never substained any damage.

I cracked my screen on my iPad a few years ago just by grabbing it and it still works but sometimes I have an issue with the touch screen I can’t even use a stylus anymore in it because it doesn’t read it properly where my cracks are

Thanks, Mike, this was very helpful. The other alternative is to pay somebody about $100 or so to come to your house or go to their business and they will replace it. That’s probably what I’ll do, along with replacing the battery. But I can afford a new one, so maybe I’ll just get that and call it a day...? I wish Apple stores were open...bummer.

Lol at the end of the video you said that $18 was well worth it instead of spending $200 for a new one!!!
I’m writing on 09/23/2023 and I happened to find my old gen 2 iPad with a cracked screen and I took it to get fix and the estimate was $200 to replace a broken screen!!! Lol
I don’t need to buy a new one; and I only need this iPad for when my granddaughter gets in car and she can watch her favorite movies when travel gets a bit boring… so idk I guess I’ll venture to try to fix this myself! Wish me luck!

Awesome, I knew the screen had to be heated but didn't know how. This is great and really I'm A+ certified so all these gadgets are basically the same. Laptops are no problem and desktops are super easy, and phones are also. FIX your own stuff and don't be afraid.

I replaced the screen on mine but the LCD screen wasn't working anymore. It worked fine before I replace the touch screen. Somehow I managed to damage the LCD display screen. Now I need to buy a new one of those. Thanks anyway
