Causes Of Back Muscle Spasms | Muscle Spasm Back Pain
*****
Before we get into it don't forget you can:
You're driving your car, you're getting low back pain or back pain. Why is it there? What can you do about it? The first thing that you need to think about is, are we talking about a little drive five minutes down the road to the shops? Or are we talking about a drive through to Europe when I'm done here, so 4, 5, 6 hours in the car. If it's the second one, then you need to be aware, to know, what's going to happen, you shouldn't be sat down for five hours on the truck. And most people will be uncomfortable and stiff if they sit for that long period, especially if they're slouching, so don't slouch. But if we're talking about patients and people, and maybe even you're watching this video, where you're getting a little bit of back pain setting, in even after five minutes of being sat down, you need to make some small changes, that will potentially mean you not in as much pain when you get in the car, not as much pain when you get out of the car and have a little more pleasant driving experience. You can take this and extrapolate that to being in the cinema, or sitting down at work, etc.
These fundamental principles that I'm going to go through with you now are really applicable to any sort of prolonged sitting position. But particularly for those who get the pain coming on after a few moments of being sat down. Number one, you should have a nice smooth curve in your lower back. Some of these cars, if you're in a sporty car, have bucket seats and those sorts of things, or people tend to slouch and sit in the most relaxed position. And that results in this process occurring. And you sit somewhat like that slouched, slumped in your chair, and all the while putting more pressure to these discs. So if you have one in your car, or if you don't, engage that lumbar support, so it actually sits you more upright with a nice smooth curve through the lumbar spine. This has two impacts: number one, if you've got low back pain, it's going to take pressure off the discs.
Number two by re orientating this curve here, this one comes back up over the top more effectively, rather than you being set like that, which means you have to bend at the top. And that's going to stretch your middle back here. So bringing everything back towards a more balanced state of affairs and holding you in that position when you're driving is going to be much more helpful. If you make those changes, you should more or less instantly notice a difference. The other thing to bear in mind is having one hand on the wheel - guys tend to be a little bit more guilty of this than ladies, be nice and square, both hands on the wheel, don't sit on one side. Sit square, have that support in your lower back. And you do an awful lot better in those car journeys. But it ultimately if it is something you're suffering with on an ongoing basis, and you can even sit in the car for a couple of minutes before your back pain comes on. And you really should be going to see someone because there's a good chance there's something going wrong in this section of your spine, obviously, depending on where the pain is. And actually seeing someone who can look at you properly, who can examine you properly, and get to the bottom of what the problem is, will be able to help you much, much more effectively. And if there if this discomfort when you're sitting down for long periods is a warning sign of something that's actually going on. It's better to deal with it. When it's minor discomfort when you're sitting in the car, then when it's I can't get to work because I'm in so much pain.
