The Case for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture based on 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2

In this presentation, Dr. Chuck Missler argues the Case for a Pre-Tribulation Rapture based on 2 Thessalonians Chapter 2

——————

Personal Note:

Probably the strongest technical argument for a PreTrib rapture. But let’s remember that whether you are pretrib or post trib, you are all close cousins in a very small minority. Over 90% of the church doesn’t even teach the end time prophecies and the Coming Millennium Reign of Christ. Most of the church is Amillennial. So while we have healthy discussions, it shouldn’t divide an already extreme minority.

Personally we remain open to both views and welcome new info that can shed light on the discussions. Even if we lean on Pre-Trib, we believe the Great Tribulation era will be the age of Hybrids (ie. The Nephilim, “As it was in the days of Noah… Matthew 24:37) were most of humanity will have already been wiped out by war, persecution and the like (worse than Nero, Hitler, Stalin, Mao Tse Tung combined) The rapture will likely be a rescue to prevent a total wipe out. I’s sure Post-tribs can relate with that.

First of all, I’m a huge Chuck Missler fan. I believe Missler does a credibly thorough job and all of his biblical studies that I have participated in. I came here to study again, the pre-trip rapture and particularly due to a recent interview between John Rich and Tucker Carlson. John Rich appears to be a very genuine Christian man and is passionate for the Lord. He professes that he and his father were once pre-tribulation believers, but are not now particularly quoting 2nd Thessalonians 2 and Matthew 24. It was interesting that he mentioned several times that he was gonna upset many Christians because of this view. I thought this was a little strange because I don’t believe this is necessarily a matter or salvation, but it’s a matter of interpretation of biblical teachings. However, in this case, I believe that John is incorrect, I intend to forward some of Misslers teaching for him to study. Again I appreciate the depth of teaching that Chuck Missler goes through. Praise God!!!!

The annoying background music stops at about 10 min. Because it's Chuck Missler I kept listening.

Preach and teach it good soldier of Christ!!!! PRETERISM IS The major problem with the preterist position is that the decisive victory portrayed in the latter chapters of the Apocalypse was never achieved. It is difficult to believe that John envisioned anything less than the complete overthrow of Satan, the final destruction of evil, and the eternal reign on God. If this is not to be, then either the Seer was essentially wrong in the major thrust of his message or his work was so helplessly ambiguous that its first recipients were all led astray.12 Mounce and other New Testament scholars believe the preterists’ interpretations are not consistent and utilize allegorical interpretations to make passages fit their theological view. Second, the preterist position rests on a pre-70 A. D. date of writing. However, most New Testament scholars date the writing of the book to be 95 A. D. If John had written Revelation after 70 A. D., the book could not have been a prophecy of the fall of Jerusalem. This presents a significant argument against the preterist position. PRETERISM IS DEAD: It is a Lie from SATAN to get the global church to not pay any attention to the staging of the current antichrist/beast system: This speaks of his global control—something which was never achieved by Rome in the days of Nero: Daniel 7:23 clearly states that at some point the Fourth Empire devours the whole earth. This is something Rome never did. Some attempt to make the expression mean the “then-known world, ” but it cannot be said that Rome even conquered the then-known world. . . . Rome did not even extend as far east as the empire of Alexander the Great. The Greeks went as far as the Indus River in India . . . Rome did not even extend that far. Furthermore, Rome never fully conquered the Parthian Empire, and that, too, was part of the known world. The area of Scotland was also part of the known world that Rome did not conquer. Rome had to build the Hadrian Wall in order to keep the nomads of northing Scotland from overrunning that part of Britain controlled by Rome.50 This speaks of the ultimate manifestation of Gentile power of the end as seen in Nebuchadnezzar’s dream. Remember that it is Satan who has authority over the kingdoms of the world prior to The Arrival of God’s Kingdom (see commentary on Revelation 13:2). Since Nero’s Rome has long passed and Christ has not yet come, it is evident that this final kingdom of Satan is yet to appear upon the stage of world history. A totalitarian system of unbelievable scope and power is also predicted. Every new invention of man gives him one more tool by which he can control others and enforce his will upon them. These inventions under the power of an able leader could make him the undisputed tyrant of the earth. Such a rule is foreshadowed by the beast. . . The concentration of evil in one vast system ruled by an antichrist who will be the most powerful potentate the human race has ever produced.51 Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth The ones who not only physically dwell on the earth, but whose affections and complete allegiance are entirely upon the earth (Isa. 26:21; Luke 21:35; Rev. 3:10+; 6:10+; 11:10+; 12:12+; 13:8+, 12+, 14+; 14:6+; 17:8+). They are to be contrasted with those whose citizenship is in heaven (John 15:19; 17:14-16; Php. 3:20; Heb. 11:13; 1Pe. 2:11). These are they whom the martyrs of the fifth seal cried out for God to avenge their deaths upon (Rev. 6:10+). See Earth Dwellers.

Jesus clearly explained that the elect are gathered *_after_* the tribulation:
■ “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” (Matthew 24:29-31)

So, when are the elect gathered? *_After_* the tribulation.

I can't make it any simpler than that.

Excellent teaching! Great teacher. He's spot on concerning what to expect and in what order. But he's speaking too fast. It makes it hard to follow.

2Th 2:1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.

Paul reminded them that he had told them why the return of Jesus hadn't happened yet so they had not missed it. He told them Let no man deceive you by any means for that day (return of Jesus) will not come until there is a falling away "and" the man of sin revealed.

Remember I told you these things and now you know what withholds; that it is revealed in his day. So basically Paul said the man of sin has to be revealed first. What withholdeth is that he might be revealed in his time.

2Th 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

The mystery of iniquity was already at work and then after that wicked is revealed the Lord destroys him with the brightness of His coming. When does that happen?

Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

Rev 19:19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
Rev 19:20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.

The battle of Armageddon is where we see Jesus return as a thief. That is also when He destroys the AC with the brightness of His coming. Paul reminded them that the reason the return of Christ is being withheld is that the time for the revealing of the man of sin had not yet arrived.

Peace,
PTT

This is long, but please, find the time to read it with your Bible out and see for yourself what scripture really says about the Day of the Lord and the Rapture.
Did I misquote something in my comment? Did I twist the scripture? Does Joel 2:31 say that "The sun will be darkened, and the moon turned to blood BEFORE the great and terrible Day of the Lord?" Does Jesus say, "Immediately AFTER the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light?" Does this not mean that the Day of the Lord Wrath starts AFTER the time of Great Tribulation? AND doesn't Jesus describe this time of Great Tribulation, and then give us a warning sign (ALL warning signs come BEFORE what they are warning about) Does He not say AFTER describing the tribulation, "THEREFORE when you see the Abomination of Desolation...flee?" This means the time of Great Tribulation stars AFTER the warning sign which is the mid-point, then immediately AFTER the warning sign, according to Jesus Himself, comes the signs in sun and moon that Joel says, comes BEFORE the Day of the Lord.

By the way, where does the Bible say the 24 elders are those who got raptured before the tribulation? Couldn't the 24 elders just represent Christians who have died? Maybe Stephen (the first Martyr for Christ) was one of the 24.

By the way, the first chapter of Revelation says, "The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place." This means that the point of the book of Revelation was to REVEAL what will come to pass. So Jesus opening the seals, and the trumpets and the vials are to show John what to write in his messages to the church.

I was a pre-trib believer for five years, but in the last 35 years of constant study, I have found too many inconsistencies in the pre-trib view. By the way, I have been attending a Calvary Chapel for 25 years: I love my pastor and my church, even though I don't agree with the pre-trib viewpoint.

There are too many assumptions in the pre-trib. For instance, there is not a single verse that even hints that the Holy Spirit residing in the church is the restrainer of the anti-christ.

Pre-trib theologians will say the tribulation period is another name for Daniel's 70th week. BUT, Jesus speaking of the time of Great Tribulation says, "If those days are not shortened, all flesh would be destroyed, so for the sake of the elect, those days will be shortened. Daniel's 70th week can't be shortened, even by a single day. Speaking of Daniel's 70th "It first mentions “1, 260 days” which is three and a half years using the Babylonian calendar, then it says, “From the time the sacrifice is abolished (mid-point) there will be 1290 days.” Then it says “Blessed is the one who makes it to the 1, 335 day.” If Daniel’s 70th week is cut short by just one day, there would be no “1, 335th Day!”

Pre-trib believers will say, "When Paul wrote, “we who are alive and remain shall be caught up…” it was because he believed in the imminent return of Christ. It is scripturally impossible for Paul to have written the word “we” because he thought he would be alive at the time of the rapture. He indeed may have thought such a thing, but he only wrote exactly what the Holy Spirit told him to write. 1st Peter 1:21 says “For prophecy never had its origin in the will (mind) of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

The pre-trib believer will say, At the Rapture Jesus comes for the Church, at the 2nd Coming He comes with the Church. This is not found in scripture. 1 Thessalonians 4:14-15 says, “For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring WITH Jesus (at the Rapture) those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself shall descend…” The Bible actually teaches that whenever the rapture is (pre, mid, post etc.”) Jesus comes with the “dead in Christ” and for “we who are alive and remain.” Since approximately 49 generations of Christians have died and gone to be with the Lord and only one generation is alive right now, Christ will actually come with the vast majority of the church (the dead in Christ) and for a tiny remnant; those who are alive and remain.

The pre-trib believer will speak of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. No scriptural evidence. Actually, the sign in sun and moon, (Joel 2:31) the great apostasy, and the man of sin (anti-christ) being revealed by the abomination of desolation (Matthew 24:21) all come before the Day of the Lord. Since Christ’s return for the rapture is in conjunction with the Day of the Lord, then it can’t be imminent. Also, since in Pre-trib theology the church being raptured would allow the ant-christ to appear and sign his seven-year treaty with Israel, then there must be a nation of Israel. Remember, there was no nation of Israel from 70 AD to May 14, 1948. So, at the very least, Christ’ coming couldn’t have been imminent until May 14, 1948.

The pre-trib believer will say, The imminent return of Christ is a teaching of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit knows full well when Jesus will return for His Church, and it’s already been two thousand years. How could the Holy Spirit have taught the writers of the New Testament that Jesus could come any moment, when He knows everything, including the exact date of the rapture?

The pre-trib believer will say, There is a difference between “coming” and “appearing.” Hebrews 9:28 says “Christ was sacrificed once (the first coming) to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” “Appear a second time, ” is calling the first coming “an appearing.”

I have heard pre-trib pastors say, Noah and his family got in the Ark and had to wait seven days for the flood; representative of being rescued in a pre-trib rapture with final punishment of wicked seven years later at Armageddon. HOWEVER, Genesis 7:11-13 says, “In the 600th year of Noah’s life on the 17th day of the 2nd month the great fountains of the deep burst forth and the windows of heaven poured down rain. On that very day, Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark.”

In Pre-trib theology, the Rapture of the Church (disappearance of hundreds of millions) the Day of the Lord Wrath and signing of a seven-year peace treaty with Israel by the “anti-Christ” happen/start on the very same day: the first day of Daniel’s Seventieth Week. This is problematic for the “pre-trib” camp, because Jesus does not mention the first three and a half years at all in the Olivet Discourse. REMEMBER, in talking about the time of Great Tribulation, Jesus gives a warning sign; the Abomination of Desolation, that Daniel says, comes at the midpoint of the seven-year treaty signed by the anti-christ.

Again, I have zero animosity towards any pre-trib theologians, pastors, or believers. I attend a Calvary Chapel who is 100% pre-trib.

We are reserved for the heavenly calling where christ sits at the right hand of God to the kingdom of his beloved son. Not a theocratic kingdom on earth.. Blessed with christ in the heavenly places. Eph. 1.3 not with Abraham on the earth.

Even the great Chuck Missler (and I’ve met him) did not understand that everything in Acts was said to only Jews and Greeks and not to any former pagans (like everyone is considered today - Colossians 3:11 KJV - and since Israel forfeited her kingdom hope in Acts 28:28-31 KJV); so everything in Acts had to happen in the first century and because it did not, all of Israel’s end time prophecy was cut off/canceled forever. And that’s why 1 Thessalonians 4:17 is not about us and will never happen now! There’s new end time prophecy but no one seems to notice it or if they do, they don’t understand that it’s different from the prophecy of the end in Acts — because we weren’t in Acts; we are the spiritual descendants of the pagans not allowed to be saved until Acts was over and ended in failure for Israel! Check out Colossians 3:4, 1:13, Ephesians 2:15, 3:6, and 3.9 (this was all a mystery before it was revealed to Paul after Acts)!

Everything isn’t always about us!

***RAPTURE AND SECOND COMING SAME DAY***

1:6 After all, God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to grant REST to you who are afflicted....when the Lord Jesus is REVEALED FROM HEAVEN.... 10 WHEN HE COMES ON THAT DAY to be glorified in his saints. 2:1 Now brethren, concerning the COMING OF OUR LORD JESUS and our being GATHERED TOGETHER to Him.” (2 Thes. 1:6, 7, 10 – 2:1).

1:7, 10 are clearly the second coming and 2:1 is the rapture. These are back-to-back passages and Paul is still talking about the second coming, only adding that the saints will be “gathered together at that time. Nowhere does Paul, or scripture, record seven years separating the two events. In so many words Paul is saying, “At the Lord’s second coming, Jesus will gather together His saints.” Assumptions and implications drive the pretrib narrative, not scripture.

My Bible says that the Lord's "Coming and "Our Gathering" will occur on "The Day of the Lord" (2Th 2:1-2, the same day as the "Harpadzo" (Rapture) (1Th 4:17-5:2), when read in full context. Jesus called this day, "The Last Day" (Jn 6:39, 40, 675(), because it is also the day when the present heavens and earth will be burned-up with intense heat (2Pet 3:10-12), the end of the age (Mt 24:3), thus, the time of the "Harvest" (Mt 13:39).
