How can static electricity be dangerous? #physics

And this is why static electricity can pose various dangers, including the risk of fires and explosions due to its ability to ignite flammable materials.

To mitigate these risks, precautions such as grounding and the use of anti-static materials are implemented in industries where static electricity is a concern, such as in aerospace engineering.

I’ll never forget getting out of my bed one night when I was a kid and seeing the sparks from static on the blanket. I thought it was a dream.

I’m not knowledgeable in physics or anything, but I really do appreciate the way your uploads give awesome explanations to it all. These are really cool.

Also when people fuel their cars, if you get back in the car and get out when the pump clicks off, always touch the vehicle because if you go straight to the nozzle, the static can ignite the gas fumes at the station. Stay grounded my friends

I hope he was alright. There is a factory a few town over from me that Id be so scared to work at. They make flares. People have to take steps to destatic electricity themselves when they go in. One woman got burned so bad there over 90% of her body and tragically she fought for her life for an entire year before passing on. RIP

In the UK we have a saying "Pull your socks up" means stop wasting time at the task you are doing. This is a good example why you should never pull your socks up..

When working with helicopters and small boats in the Coast Guard, the seamen on the small boat would have to use what’s called a dead man’s stick. As the Helo lowered a basket to the boat (used for getting people up to the helo) the rotating blades build up a tremendous amount of static electricity. So the seamen has to touch the basket with the stick first (it’s grounded into the ocean through the boat). It wasn’t uncommon to see a powerful spark jump between stick and basket before they even touched. While explosions weren’t an issue, getting shocked by a charged basket was no laughing matter.

Thats a serious burn to his head, face and hands. Very traumatic. Hope he healed well. It would've been extremely tragic if it sparked earlier with both deep inside.
