For anyone interested...

How it works: As we all know, there are very small particles called electrons and these carry a negative charge. When he rubs the jellyfish thing (idk what its called lmao) the electrons move from the cloth to the jellyfish. This results in a lot more electrons being in the jellyfish than there were before. So, theres basically a lot of negative charge on the jellyfish

Theres also fewer electrons on the cloth now so it has a positive charge (lack of electrons). By rubbing the cloth on the pole, whatever electrons the cloth had left went to the pole so the pole is also now negatively charged

Things of the same charge (like 2 negatively charged objects) will repel each other, as such the jellyfish goes mad when the pole is put near it. The jellyfish's "arms" also spread out all over the place because the electrons within the arms of the jellyfish are all repelling each other too

Edit: thanks to the ppl who took their time to read this. Physics is a very interesting subject and i hope ppl learn to appreciate it more in school

I wish my physics teacher would have explained Coulomb's Law in this way

So my parents are making static electricity in the living room at night?

Is it just me or do people get goosebumps when just hearing that static cackle sound, or just by watching it??

A simple stick (as opposed to a complex stick)

What material are the strings? I want to do this with my son.

Bro I literally see static electricity(lightning) at night when I drag my fingers across my blanket almost looks like we have some kind of super power

I used to have a toy that did this. Used batteries to give the rod a charge, and tensil was used as the material. It was actually very cool

Absolutely the best demonstration, shows a slight flow lateral

Who else remembers watching this in science class?

Aside from the sus stick rubbing, it's actually pretty cool to see.

Is it just me who tought he was holding a jelly fish _💀_

Electrons from the atoms of one material are transferred during the rubbing of [this is known as the triboelectric effect] When electrons build up in an area through this process, , a negative charge builds up, and can be released. This buildup of charge is called static electricity.
