Why aren’t the people in Matthew 7:21-23 saved?

We are only saved by God grace and not by our works

6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works,

7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.

Finally someone got tAnyhis right! It amazes me how many use this passage to scare people into more works and less sin for salvation! Anyone who does not believe in Jesus, and trusts in their own works, is a doer of iniquity! Anyone who believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is a new creature! We still have the flesh of sin with us, but our new nature does not sin. Now that we are saved, we should die to the flesh and walk in the Spirit!

Amen. This is so clear if explained by other Scripture. To never have been known is to never have been saved. Why? Because they trusted in their works to get to heaven. That's why they are called workers of iniquity. Because anyone who isn't saved is a worker of iniquity, no matter what you do. Even if you technically do good works, they are still works of iniquity since you do them from bad intention, namely establishing your own righteousness based on these works. "For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God." (Rom 10:2-3 KJV)

It is important to note that Freewill does not suddenly cease to exist following the point of salvation. The wages of sin, for believer or nonbeliever, is still physical death.
