Hey Singapore 2 fatal incidents in 77 years makes your airline industry amazing. Know that, but always prayers for the deceased. Singapore Airlines is doing a hell of a lot better than airlines here in America!

When will the media ever learn?? It is not an "air pocket" !! The sudden drop in altitude of an aircraft is caused by a DOWNDRAFT, Sometimes they are mild and sometimes they are severe! As a pilot I have encountered all types and often times you pass through them quickly and at other times they can seem to push the aircraft towards the ground with an intensity that causes a panic and the use of full power to maintain control. Fly safe, stay safe....and keep your seat belt ON !!!

Turbulence has never brought a plane down. Stay buckled and you'll be fine.

Poor people. I feel horrible for the guy that died

I’m definitely gonna keep seatbelt on whenever seated from now on

Exactly why they recommend you keep your seat belts buckled while in the air. Follow the recommendations and you have no problems.

I NEVER take off my seat belt off except to literally run to the bathroom and hurry back.

For a passenger to launch into the ceiling, the plane has to be descending at greater than 9.8m/s²

Why is nobody posting the video from inside the plane? I seen it on TV but can't find it elsewhere.

Wow, they hit that ceiling with a thud. For those who survived, better respect that seatbelt sign in the future. The Airline is not responsible
for turbulence, praises to the pilots for keeping it together.

Turbulence has existed since the natural beginnings of earth’s atmosphere.

This is why you need to keep your seatbelt fastened even if the seatbelt light is off. This is not to point fault at the passenger-condolences to his family; it's just a terribly sad lesson. Another point about seatbelts. There is something called "submarining" where if the aircraft decelerates rapidly and your seatbelt is too high across your waist and not down low across your lap, you can actually slide under the seatbelt (hence the term "submarining"). So keep your seatbelt low across your lap, not your waist.

Us pilots called that severe turbulence it’s not a Boeing issue.

I have definitely noticed more severe turbulence - both strength and frequency - during the last couple of flights I've taken as opposed to, say, flights I've taken 10 years ago.
Always wear that seatbelt!

That’s really sad. This is why I wear my seatbelt at all times in the air.

Totally avoidable by wearing seatbelts.
