The worst muscle building mistake is simply not going to the gym after 40. Stay active and healthy. Longevity is a blessing.

Great topic! I'm 44 train on a 4 day split with steady state fasted cardio every morning. The key is discipline and consistency. I train in the 12-15 rep range, moderate weight, slow tempo, squeeze, mind/muscle connection. Every meal is weighed and tracked. Minimum of 7 hours sleep a night. On busy days I'll even catch a 25 minute power nap before hitting the gym while my pre workout meal digests. At 44 I'm in the best shape of my life.

I’m 45 and train every day of the week. I feel great and still enjoying that beer on the weekend with friends. Exercise is a lifestyle not just to look good at summer, is to feel great every day for the rest of our lives.

I’m 49, I train just as hard if not harder than what I did when I was in my 20’s and 30’s.

I'm 55. I still hit the weights as I have for decades. However, I have already been to the top of my mountain. I train hard, but I do it the smart way. My back doesn't hurt and I also do exercises that strengthen my joints to keep me moving forward. Keep this in mind youngin's when you think you are bulletproof. Sooner or later you're going to go through the same stuff. If you want to keep in the best shape possible in your later years. Pay attention to the muscles you don't even know you have.

Great video and lots of great comments! I’m in my 60’s and my best advice for longevity is to leave your ego at the door of the gym and appreciate your own accomplishments.👍

Bonus: don't bend your neck down to watch yourself do curls keeping that good posture as we get old is super important.

I love this video! Super educational and helpful. I'm curious, have you ever heard of Next Level Diet? I got a personalized muscle-building meal plan from them and I love it.

Congratulations on the video!!! Especially helpful! Hopefully, everyone above 35 will keep this advice in mind (not only those above 40). Everyone is different, but I am suggesting that from my personal experience in doing some of these mistakes that led me to several injuries after the age of 35. Unfortunately, being at 45 now, I am still doing some ... I recently "woke up" my carpal tunnel syndrome after many years, due to overtraining of my wrists in pushing exercises. Everyone knows it sucks when an injury restricts you from doing what you want. So the main goal is to stay injury-free in order to be possible to keep training as you age. Stay healthy and injury-free!! Thank you once again for another useful video!

As a man over 40, the only real changes I had to make was cutting down on my squat and deadlifts (used to love those lifts, sadly, the knees get creakier) and doing rotator cuff warm-ups on any day my arms are being used to push or pull. I can lift about as much as I ever did, but I have to manage pains more so I don't put myself out of commission for extended periods of time.

As several other comments have correctly stated, the only real mistake is not going to the gym after 40.

I’m 50 and got taught a big lesson by lifting the same way I did in my early 30s. Spent months feeling rundown and had nagging injuries. Cut out the squats, use dumbbells for any press movements and it’s helped a lot. Don’t hesitate to back off or eliminate any exercise that is causing problems.
