Gidday from New Zealand. I have just done this fix after watching your video. Took me about 20 mins once I managed to squeeze my arm in there.... Thank you for making it simple and explaining it nice and clearly. Job done!!

As a former technician and owner of a 2012 F150, I will vouch for this video. My fuel door hinge came apart in 2016. I performed the exact modification shown in this video. Eight years later, the fuel door still opens and closes smoothly.

Only thing I did different is I bought a new door mechanism and modified the hinge. When I took mine apart, the spring was nowhere to be found.

Second time I fixed the door. This time I used your idea of the stainless washer and screw. I feel confident that I won’t have to fix it a third time. Very clear instructions! Thanks, good work!

It is amazing how long Ford let this simple problem remain without a redesign. I went a slightly different direction with my fix but conceptually the same. Great video.

Thanks! Looks like this is what I need to do to fix my door. My Ford dealer wanted $250 to fix it - they were going to put an entire new unit in without even checking to see if it could be fixed!!!

I had fender liners. I loosened one screw on the fender liner near the fuel neck line just so would not catch my arm. I found I could reach up and push the two bottom clips which aided me in being able to push the other top clip he mentioned. I used a stubby flat screw driver to aid me in pushing the top clip down as I was at the maximum my arm and fingers could reach. The stubby just gave me the extra little bit of pressure needed on that one clip. Everything worked exactly as he described and I’m definitely glad I found his video this is the right video to watch as he said in the beginning. I used more tape as I think I need more coverage than he did but that’s personal preference.

This was a tremendous help. I just fixed my fuel door. The only suggest is that can slide the decorative door off if you pry the tab on the inside up.

Greatly done video - very clear. No money spent on parts either except for 45 cents for the screw & washer! I really appreciate it - thanks again. 😊😊

Thank you for this video, it was extremely helpful. I found out something by accident that could help prevent scratching or bending the door during this repair. I was cleaning the inside of the fuel bay and accidentally popped the door off the Spring assembly. When I looked closely I hadn’t broken the very small tab inside. So to fix, I lined it up and slid the door toward the truck and it stays in place, so it was an easy fix, thank goodness. If I ever have a problem with the Spring assembly, I know what to do. Thanks again!

Thank you for the easy to follow instructional video. Also a special thank you for using a tripod. Others don’t use them and their videos are not as good as yours.

Thanks for the good how to video. You did a great job in expelling. Now off to fix my fuel door.

Tape was a good idea. I was able to get it out with a long screw driver and (interior) vinyl prybar popped right out with no damage. I also put the screw and washer on to prevent it from happening again. This was a very good video, thanks!

Great video. Very detailed. You saved me the $350 quoted to fix it by the Ford garage.

I did find value in this tutorial, but was unable to contortion my arm around behind the panel to reach the release tabs on the fuel door assembly to release them. I gave it a good try for around 25 minutes, and after scratching my arm all up (yes I was wearing long sleeves) I gave up.
I have the standard lift and standard sized tires on my 2011 F150 XLT.
From a different youtube video I found I went with the 90º pick tool from the front. Using the pick tool and a nylon bicycle tire lever, I was able to loosen the tabs and move forward with the replacement process. I will keep the original and implement your technique with the drill and screw as a back up.
