Thank you so much for this! I've been dealing with this issue for years and tried magnets, screws, etc., but I wasn't satisfied. I just did this and got it working perfectly! A few things on my end, when I got under to release the clips, I could only see one, so it only lifted a bit but it was enough to pry it from the top, main entry point, pry carefully under the rubbery band. Once I got the piece out, I lined up the holes like you said and at the bottom, above the tiny piece that goes out, i made a hole with the thinnest drill bit I had then put a piece of small paper clip through it and pinched it shut so it won't allow it to raise up. Putting it back required a little karate chop and twisting it to line up with the screw holes set it in place. Thanks again, sharing what I went through but it still took me only about 30 minutes. Had I known this beforehand, would have taken me 15 tops!!

Thanks for the video. Top release tab very hard to get to . Bottom release tabs easy. Top one snapped off in disassembly but had no problem everything snapping back on . We did drill small hole in the end with small screw and washer. Advance Auto wanted $ 149 and had to order if we wanted a new one. Working great now. !!

This video was great! Thank you. I ordered new parts from Amazon. The new pin was metal so the teeth won’t wear out causing it to slide up. It also has a cotter pin to stop that too. $10!

The spring went back on opposite the way it was when you pulled it out to start with. I guess it works either way?

Got a new spring and post but the thing the spring is cracked. I need the whole thing repkaced.

You do not need to take the whole gas cap off reach up there pop the spring off close the gas cap put the pin back in put the spring back on

just add a lil heat to end make kind of head and it'll holds for good

The pin is plastic on mine what I did is I drilled a hole in the bottom of it and put a screw so it couldn’t pop up anymore

Mine is different than this it has what looks like a rubber band that pulls it closed it does not work on a spring

You don't have to do all that😅. I just literally did mine .disconnect the top spring, wiggle the plastic bar back in place.
