Michio Kaku will say anything to be perceived as a genius with amazing futurological insight. To "explore" the universe by sending information about the connections in our brains, we need a receiver that can then run the consciousness on the other side. Laser light hitting an unexplored planet is hardly "exploration"...

Making copies of yourself is a philosophically tenuous way to get around. Because now there are more than one of you, the one that got scanned on earth, and the one that arrived at the destination. One who thinks transport worked, and one who doesn't. You could kill the earth version, but does that mean that you teleported or that you died and now have an identical clone on the moon?

Just a thought., do you think in ancient India the Sages and Seers got to know the stars and other worlds with this phenomenon? May be not putting the consciousness in a disc and projecting, but the consciousness itself was trained in such a way that it could go out of body, and go and explore the galaxy. Read Shankaracharyas biography, may be that's what he is pointing to.
