People are neither inherently “good” or “bad” we have to delete good and evil from our vocabulary. People have a combination of evolutionary psychology, with social bonding and cooperation ensuring our survival as a species, and we also have instincts for self preservation. Systems decide how we interact with that. In a system of scarcity, selfish instincts are more emphasized. In s society without scarcity, people become more cooperative. In a society post capitalist, people still compete it’s just over different things.

I think people are primarily good. But after 2 months on YouTube I may change my mind.
People are so misinformed and will fight to the death for things that are false. That is horrible.
What makes me doubt people is how bad I react after people quote Breitbart or Epoch times and will not believe anything other than Fox or worse.

Currently people are scoundrels. People's instincts tend to cooperation with one's ingroup, as in religion as it is practised. Cooperation and fairness seem to be going against your statistics...take a drive, and get back to me. Rotten and narcissistic are the new normal.

So many pessimistic people here, jeez. When you look at politicians or people in power it might seem like a majority of people are evil, or at least selfish. But regular people are generally good people, if maybe a bit apathetic. I wonder if the people here in the comments who doubt the goodness of other people see themselves as good.

Great philosophical question. I am of the belief people are generally good. Unfortunately politics gets the best of some of us who aren't as adapt socially. My thinking stems from the works of Aristotle. Ironically, I believe he inadvertently provided the best answer for this question in the book, "Politics, by Aristotle". Each and every important and dangerous issue our nation faces can be solved by education, and it starts with our children. The greater good of "us", will always prevail!

I think people are good within a limited scope. If you have a personal connection to a person, you have a stake in their well being. Without the connection, people can be brutal to each other without a thought.

It's obvious that people are mostly good. If most people were bad then crime would be committed by the majority of people and civilation couldn't exist, let alone function. The overwhelming majority of people just live their lives without harming others. There would be perpetual chaos 24/7 if more people were bad than good.

I don't. Isn't it odd that from birth children have to be taught moral values and how to behave? It seems to me people are born "bad" and have to be corrected and educated on the right way to act in society.
