"Isn't that just how English works-"
This is a video about COMIC BOOK LETTERING, specifically when using an ALL CAPS FONT.

If your comment is NOT about COMIC LETTERING, you have missed the point. If you are talking about MIXED CASE FONTS, you have missed the point.

Huh, I don't think I ever noticed that before. I'll have to keep an eye out for it now.

I am dyslexic and the I with cross bars is way easier to read for me. So even though its not convention I use the cross bar I always.

As a dyslexic person I find reading words speld with the "crossbar I" much easier to read i think it's because it adds a bit of separation so that my brain won't accidentally skip over it and make the word more difficult to read

It seems tho that the Segmented I makes itself more noticeable than the Non-Segmented I in a sentence, making it easier to notice and read.

I dont know why that matters or how it looks better
It feels like one of those things where you'd only do it because everyone else also does. It doesnt seem like a mistake rather than a convention

... I've been reading about how to do webcomics and lettering for years and I'd literally NEVER heard this before. I thought the crossbar I was just for style, like people who put a line through their 7's. Neat!

I think at least the font should let readers be able to tell an I from an L.

as a Dyslexic I've always disliked this, in my custom fonts I always use both Uppercase and lowercase letters, and my lowercase "L"s are cursive and my "i"s are always dotted, if I can't read it I can't check it. I once lost some points on an assignment for this choice

I is also capitalised, like all letters, at the start of a sentence, so seeing it without crossbars in that second bubble ticks me off.

I appreciate learning this. Rules are power, and breaking rules intentionally is creativity.

I will make the deliberate choice to use ALL uppercase letter ECXEPT for i. I like the dot, i like putting a heart or star or emoji where the dot goes. I have made my decison and now i shall give each main character their own dot to sexure this deliberate decision.

Wait! Omg! You wrote Cast-Off? My friend recommended it to me saying a youtuber made it but I've been putting it off for so long! I came across your character a couple of months ago and this definitely gave me the motivation to start it!

For my most recent story each character has their own font! It’s fun trying to balance personality with readability and all that

I didn’t consider this earlier. I made my own custom font and have it always capitalized so people can understand it better but I’m pretty sure I’ve made this mistake. I won’t for my future pages. ❤

I just do lettering in my comics like it's a sentence, I use proper grammar and punctuation and wrote the first letter of a proper noun or sentence get capitalised. I also use British English even though I live in and am American because I like it.

OHH!! I just realized that I do this subconsciously! I've noticed that sometimes I write my I's with the crossbars and sometimes I don't, but I could never figure out why. Now that I think about it, this is exactly what I do lol! Interesting how I adopted this without even realizing it.

THANK YOU! I see so many people that either don't know or ignore this convention in webcomics and it drives me nuts!

As a additional piece of advice, if a font lacks a sans-serif uppercase I, a lowercase L can sometimes make a good stand-in, as long as it's just a line and doesn't have a base and/or cap to it.

Never like I with outout its crossbows. Its hard to tell between an I and l when they're close together in a word, yk?
That's why I always used the cross bows for uppercase and the dot for lowercase when writing.

I get it but honestly this sounds like so much work :'
