GIS Lab Practice video-7 {Adding Raster Data}
To add raster in QGIS is just simple, proceed thus; Go to "Layer" menu then "Add Raster Layer" Navigate to where you have saved the raster (scanned map or satellite image) data, select it and click "open". Next assign your required coordinate reference systems and click "Ok".
In some instances while using .jpg image type, you will notice that the image seems completely black or white and without information (blank/empty). In reality, it contains a lot of information but we are not able to see it because it is very 'low-contrast'. Right click the image layer and click on 'Properties' to adjust the contrast according to histogram tab.
The following file types works fine on windows 7 operating system; .img (ERDAS) image file, or .ecw image file, or .tif image file, or .bmp bitmap image. Conversion between/from image file types to another could be done to overcome this challenge.
