Why Bo-Katan Doesn't Have A Right To The Darksaber

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 mentioned that Bo-Katan owned the Darksaber. However, she doesn't have a legitimate claim on it. Here's why.

As The Book of Boba Fett pointed out, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) once owned the Darksaber but isn’t the blade’s rightful owner. During her arc in The Mandalorian season 2, the character’s primary goal was to defeat Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and reclaim her lost property. However, the legendary relic of Mandalore ultimately wound up with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) instead.

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 provided a refresher on the Darksaber, a highly valued weapon with a rich history in the Star Wars universe that encompasses episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and The Mandalorian. As the Armorer (Emily Swallow) explained, the Darksaber was created by Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian member of the Jedi Order and a fearsome warrior from eons past. Viewed as a respected symbol of their homeworld, the Darksaber is believed to be the key to bringing back their lost civilization. It eventually fell into the hands of Moff Gideon, but is now in the possession of Mando.

The Armorer’s history lesson about the sword served as a reminder that before The Mandalorian season 2, the Darksaber was wielded Bo-Katan. But despite her previous ownership of the blade, she doesn’t actually have a legitimate claim on it. Like the Armorer said in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, Bo-Katan believed that her Mandalorian bloodline gave her cause to wield the sword. After a civil war on the planet in Star Wars: Rebels, the Darksaber was handed over to her. The decision to make Bo-Katan the new owner of the Darksaber was supported by several Mandalorian clans. But that alone doesn’t mean that it should still belong to her.

The Armorer was right when she said that the Darksaber was never truly Bo-Katan’s. According to the rules, Darksaber must be won by combat, which isn’t how Bo-Katan received the sword. The Armorer doesn’t recognize Bo-Katan as its owner since she didn’t fight for it. That being said, Bo-Katan did try to earn it the correct way by going after Moff Gideon. The problem is that it was actually Mando who bested the villain in battle. In doing so, Mando ruined Bo-Katan’s plan and became its rightful owner in her place.

The Mandalorian season 2 made it clear that Bo-Katan herself understands that she can’t lay claim to the weapon at this time. Mando offered it up to her, but she refused, knowing that taking it would be a violation of the rules. That means that if Bo-Katan ever wants to be officially recognized as the new leader of their people, she’ll have to go up against her former ally. Only then can it be hers. Since that’s her only path to the Darksaber, the Mandalorian may have to watch out for a challenge from Bo-Katan after his adventure in The Book of Boba Fett ends.

We all know Lando is the rightful owner of the darksaber.

Maul was killed by Kenobi, Kenobi was killed by Vader, Vader was killed by Sideous, Sideous was killed by the Death Star, and the Death Star was destroyed by Lando.

The Landolorian.

You’re welcome.

Technically, the DarkSaber doesn't rightfully belong to anyone since the Mandalorians didn't win it in battle against the Jedi. It was stolen from the Jedi temple. By their own logic, no one has the right to it.

Litterally every clone wars path leads to darth vader who then leads to either C3PO or Luke depending if Anakin killed Vader or Luke did

i have a growing hatred for all these dark saber rightful owner chains. people forget the very important fact that there's an abandonment clause. if it's lost, abandoned, or dishonorably won/received, the chain resets upon someone simply picking it up or winning it from the current wielder. the former rightful owner loses claim, its considered abandoned since they didn't reclaim it first

Pre Vizsla was defeated by Obi-Wan Kenobi, who was later defeated by Maul, who was later slain by Kenobi, who got decapitated by Vader, whose son defeated him afterwards.

Imo it should've gone maul, palpatine, windu, anakin and died with him as he could've bought balance to the force by killing palpatine and also to mandalore by giving them a chance to live without the dark saber as anakin killed himself and palpatine at the same time so no one could've claimed it afterwards as no one could beat anakin as he's dead
