Why Bo-Katan Doesn't Have A Right To The Darksaber

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 mentioned that Bo-Katan owned the Darksaber. However, she doesn't have a legitimate claim on it. Here's why.

As The Book of Boba Fett pointed out, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) once owned the Darksaber but isn’t the blade’s rightful owner. During her arc in The Mandalorian season 2, the character’s primary goal was to defeat Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) and reclaim her lost property. However, the legendary relic of Mandalore ultimately wound up with Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) instead.

The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 provided a refresher on the Darksaber, a highly valued weapon with a rich history in the Star Wars universe that encompasses episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and The Mandalorian. As the Armorer (Emily Swallow) explained, the Darksaber was created by Tarre Vizsla, a Mandalorian member of the Jedi Order and a fearsome warrior from eons past. Viewed as a respected symbol of their homeworld, the Darksaber is believed to be the key to bringing back their lost civilization. It eventually fell into the hands of Moff Gideon, but is now in the possession of Mando.

The Armorer’s history lesson about the sword served as a reminder that before The Mandalorian season 2, the Darksaber was wielded Bo-Katan. But despite her previous ownership of the blade, she doesn’t actually have a legitimate claim on it. Like the Armorer said in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, Bo-Katan believed that her Mandalorian bloodline gave her cause to wield the sword. After a civil war on the planet in Star Wars: Rebels, the Darksaber was handed over to her. The decision to make Bo-Katan the new owner of the Darksaber was supported by several Mandalorian clans. But that alone doesn’t mean that it should still belong to her.

The Armorer was right when she said that the Darksaber was never truly Bo-Katan’s. According to the rules, Darksaber must be won by combat, which isn’t how Bo-Katan received the sword. The Armorer doesn’t recognize Bo-Katan as its owner since she didn’t fight for it. That being said, Bo-Katan did try to earn it the correct way by going after Moff Gideon. The problem is that it was actually Mando who bested the villain in battle. In doing so, Mando ruined Bo-Katan’s plan and became its rightful owner in her place.

The Mandalorian season 2 made it clear that Bo-Katan herself understands that she can’t lay claim to the weapon at this time. Mando offered it up to her, but she refused, knowing that taking it would be a violation of the rules. That means that if Bo-Katan ever wants to be officially recognized as the new leader of their people, she’ll have to go up against her former ally. Only then can it be hers. Since that’s her only path to the Darksaber, the Mandalorian may have to watch out for a challenge from Bo-Katan after his adventure in The Book of Boba Fett ends.

Beskar but gets crushed? Did they forget? Dins helmet can take a beating but the saber gets crushed like tin

But technically the beskar on the darksaber isn't the weapon, it's more like the armor of the weapon

the casing of the dark saber was beskar the dangerous part was the blade when the armorer said beskar was meant for armor not weapons she was talking about the beskar spear in season 2 there's a bit of a difference

They could've done so much more with the Darksaber. I would've compared it to Excalibur and King Arthur.
Din Jarin could've taken it away, become Mandalore (Title) and disappear. Bo Katan would rule Mandalore (Planet) in his stead as reagent.
And when the people of Mandalore are in their darkest moment, he will return, blade in hand to save them.

remember: Beskar is not meant to make weapons... except you´re already in season Season 3, where the same Mandalorians use Beskar spears for training.

Kreia says some neat stuff to Canderous about Mandalorians dying a slow, generational death in KOTOR 2, kinda still feels relevant

Dinn Grogu will rebuild it when he gets older.

Well, it is destroyed so there is that. Also the children of the watch had no use OR belive in it anyway, and they made up nearly HALVE of what was left of Mandalorian society. So destroying that puny lightsaber (WICH WE STILL DONT HAVE IN SWTOR!) was of no real consequence.

Wait a minute hold on if the light saber was made out of the same metal as their Armor. Then that would mean it wouldn't have broken so easily when dude just stepped on it.

The Dark saber HILT is not a weapon, it cant piece beskar, the spear could.

Beskar is meant for armor (in our culture) and not for weapons. Therefore all of mandalore will be destroyed as long as it exists. Im sorry, did i miss something?!

Dude honestly I understand that Beskar is Star Wars’ super cool super awesome super strong material but the fact that is has literally zero counters has made the Mandalorian’s conflicts a complete joke for the last like 2.5 seasons.

But wasn't that created by a mandalorian who is indoctrinated into the Jedi order and if I remember correctly he left to go back to his mandalorian people and if you think that Santa cat returns back to the rightful heritage in which he came from in either sense

If it was made from beskar how the hell did they crush is in their first that easily

Sabers arnt considered weapons by the jedi, only tools, then mandalorians had it as a symbol, so technically its still valid

This wasn't about the dark saber it was about the beskar spear.
