Fun fact, this movie came out close to my mom's 18th birthday. She and her parents along with her siblings went to see it. A little over 40 years later, they were reshowing it at a local Cinemark on my mom's birthday. Me and my dad did not hesitate to get tickets.

We played the first part of this at my wedding when the bridal party then the bride and I were introduced for the first time as husband and wife. My wife even had a custom F-14 ice sculpture for me at the cocktail hour!

I was 2 in 1986 when this movie premiered. I was 18 in 2002 when I enlisted in The United States Navy, where I spent 7 years. This movie was why.

On March 3, 1969 the United States Navy established an elite school for the top one percent of its pilots. Its purpose was to teach the lost art of aerial combat and to insure that the handful of men who graduated were the best fighter pilots in the world.

They succeeded.

Today, the navy calls it the Fighter Weapons School.
