The story of Gary Gilmore is fascinating, he insisted on the implementation of his death sentence and wanted it to be by firing squad, this occurred on 17 January 1977.
Norman Mailer wrote Gilmore biography in the Executioners Song, if you are a reader I highly recommend reading it, Gilmore fought for years for his execution, it is a very detailed book he relied on Gilmores wife and family for his biography.

I broke my neck a few years back....I actually didn't know....i thought i was developing cerebral palsey or some such condition....after a few weeks i couldn't walk at all as my spinal chord was getting crushed....so i went to hossy and got it fixed i.e. fused and decompressed....it horrified me to think how many people were "hanged" but in all likelihood were strangled slowly.

Just saying, !the cartels have done some of these including the blood eagle. I watched a video of it happening after hearing some of the stories of the people that walk with us, I don’t disagree with the death penalty

The focus shouldn't be solely on the inmate when asking what is acceptable and appropriate, the effect on society... as in what the values of that society are, not what is proclaimed to be the values. What the actions, motives, and intentions are and honest answers are most important because of where that will lead a society, culture, individual, government, nation... whatever consists of humans with individual values will show those same values in the system they make up.

Fun Fact: Rainey Bethea was the last person to be (PUBLICLY) executed in the United States in Owensboro, Kentucky (which is also where I currently live right now) Owensboro is the 4th largest city in Kentucky

Also, another fun fact about Ky: Bowling Green, Kentucky is not only the 3rd largest city in Kentucky, but it's also the ONLY place in the world where Corvettes are manufactured, so every Corvette You've ever seen and ever will see was made in Bowling Green, Kentucky

Honestly death by the firing squad is the least gruesome way just everyone takes a hit and then the target is dead i mean you could even put the target to sleep so yeah people think that lethal injection is less gruesome? Man honestly this is not correct

I have never understood why with lethal injection they don't just follow the standard protocols used in general anesthesia that is used thousands of times over the world when doing surgery. The only change they need to make is no intubation (once the muscle relaxant is administered) and a large bolus of KCL which will cause very rapid cardiac arrest. We know for sure that GA is painless as most of us have been under a GA and come out the other side. Why 30% are bodged surely indicates the whole procedure is flawed.

Typical. Complicate something to the point that all sorts of weird options are considered. The whole thing could cost a dollar and be instant. Most countries have the sense to follow this approach.

Regarding the “blood eagle” - there are no credible records from antiquity of it being actually used. The sources are often vague, referencing legendary figures of dubious veracity or mixing up accepted historical chronology. Whether you believe it existed because of literature or not, there is absolutely no archeological proof of it having been real.
